When we get to my house, the first thing I see is a very angry yet worried Alex. He is pacing in front of the door. He looks up when he hears the car pull up. I get out of the car and walk towards Alex.
"What the fück NiNi!"
"Don't call me NiNi. How many times do I have to tell you!" We are both starting to raise our voices.
"A cop is in our fücking house asking our mom and dad where the hėll you would go! But it turns out that you were in bed with this båstard!" He is in my face yelling and when those words leave his mouth, I slap him right across his face.
"What the hėll Nicole!" He has his hand on his cheek.
"I'm not sleeping with him! Why would you even assume that!"
"He just brought you home at 11 in the morning after you stayed the night who knows where. And lastly you came back wearing his clothes! What am I supposed to think?!"
"Um. Excuse me," Duke speaks up.
"No one is talking to you, you little dipshít!" Alex growls at Duke. Literally growls.
"STOP IT!" I yell, "Both of you get inside! Duke sorry you had to meet my family this way but you have to come inside with us so we can explain this. And you," I turn to my brother, "you are going to play nice or so help me god."
Alex opens his mouth like he's going to say something but he closes it and storms into the house.
"A protective brother is sometimes a good thing." Duke says shrugging his shoulders. We both walk into the house and I see that Alex wasn't lying. Dad is in his uniform comforting my mom who looks like she hasn't slept. Across from them is my dad's partner. (no not like a woman who my dad is not having an affair with but his partner because my dad is a cop)
"Hey Dad, Mom." I say shyly
"What the hėll, Nicole!" They both yell and stand up.
"Oh come on! Why does everyone keep saying that!" I say throwing my arms in the air.
"Because Nicole. You can't just stay the night at some random guys house and not expect us to say anything. Your mother and I were so worried last night when you didn't come home."
It takes me a second to process what my dad had said but then I speak, "Worried!" I scoff. "First of all Dad! You are never home. Secondly Mom, you shouldn't have been worried. You told me, no you forced me to go out last night. I kept saying no but, and I quote, 'It could be a new experience and I could make new friends.' So don't tell me that you were worried. I am turning seventeen in less then 8 months. I can take care of myself!"
"You told her to go out last night?" my dad has turned his attention to my mother.
"Yes. I did. But she was supposed to be back before one and be with Samantha the whole time. Vincent, you can't possibly blame me or her."
"Fine. I won't. But you," he points at Duke, "I want you out of my house right now or I will arrest you for kidnapping." I forgot Duke was here but when my dad says that I turn to Duke then back to my dad.
"Wait, what!" I say to my dad. "Dad come on! I would've probably done some bad things if he would've got me out of that party."
"Wait you were drunk?" My dad stares at me in surprise.
"Yeah. Someone spiked the punch." My dad walks up to me and takes my face in his hands.
"Are you okay? Did someone hurt you? Did he?" Dad asks me. He suddenly looks really worried.
"What? No. Dad," I take his hands of my face,"like I said he got me out of that party. He let me sleep in his bed, alone I might add. He let me shower and gave me some clothes to wear. He even made me breakfast."
"Oh... Well, I apologize for my rude outbursts young man." He extends his arm and offers Duke his hand. Duke shakes it.
"It's fine. You were just looking out for your daughter. I'm Duke Perry."
"I'm Vincent Wuornos. This is my wife Natalie and that's our son Alex. You obviously already know my daughter."
"Um Dad." I interrupt nodding my head toward Marcus the police officer still sitting on our couch
"Oh Marcus, you can go now. We're fine." Dad says to his fellow police officer.
"I have to go to. I have some errands to run." Duke says
"Oh okay. I'll see you around?" I say to Duke.
"Sure. Bye." He closes the door when he leaves.
"I hate him. I never want to see him in this house ever again." I'm about to stop Alex from saying anything else but he continues. "No! Nikki listen to me. I don't want to see you with him. You don't know him and neither do we. No one else in Portland seems to know him so no, I don't want to see you guys together."
"You haven't even given him a chance!" I try to argue but fail when I realize that Alex is right about no one else knowing him.
"I warned you. If you don't stay away from him, he's going to regret it." Alex stomps up the stairs, I assume he is going to his room. I hope that is an empty threat because I kinda wanted to get to know that beautiful stranger. What if he was being seriously.
"Don't worry Honey. You know how Alex is. Plus he was the one that took it the hardest. He was just worried." My mom reassures me and rubs my back with her palm.
"Dad?" I say
"Yeah?"
"What if he is being serious? What if he hurts Duke for hanging out with me?"
He sighs, "I have hoped that I would never have to arrest my son but if that happens then so be it.
"Let's just hope he won't." Mom says but even saying that, none of us believe it.
