"So......Did you make your decision yet?" Alex asked me.
"Umm...no not yet...I'm sorry if this is taking so long" I sighed.
"No, it's okay. I don't want to build up any pressure on you. But, can I ask...why is it hard for you to settle with a decision?"
"Umm...it's because..." I stammered. Should I tell him I like him now? Or should I wait? I don't know what to say.
"It's because...?" Alex questions.
"Ummm....It's because.....someone asked me to the dance, too" I quickly said. Damn it! Worst move ever!
"Oh......did you accept his proposal?" He asked, sadly.
"No, I said 'I'll think about it'..." I exlplained.
"Who asked you? I mean, if it's okay to ask..." He asked
"Umm.....Jake" I sighed.
"..."
"..."
"Do you have feelings for him?" Alex asked.
"What?" I said, shocked.
"I know you like him....you don't have to hide it" He sighed.
"No, no. I--"
"I have to go, Kathryn. See you at Friday night..." He left, in a sad and quick way. Ugh, why did I have to tell him that Jake asked me to be his date?! I'm so stupid, sometimes. I took my smoothie and walked back home.
~The Next Day~
My dress has finally arrived and it looks way prettier in person. I hanged it behind my bedroom door. I tried texting Alex that my dress finally came, but he wouldn't respond.
Kathryn: Hey, Alex! My dress finally came! Please answer! Your making me feel lonely... :(
Kathryn: Alex, Why are you ignoring me? Are you mad at me? Did I do something wrong? Please text back :(
Kathryn: Okay, Alex. What's up. You haven't texted me or called me before and after school. I didn't see you at chem class and you kept avoiding me at lunch. If you're going to ignore me, GO AHEAD! Don't talk to me or speak to me ever again. That's your choice. Goodbye :(
Ugh! Why isn't he answering to my texts?! I am so mad. Tomorrow is the dance and now I don't feel like going. But, I'm doing this for my happiness. I sighed and thought of Alex and Jake's proposals to the dance. Since Alex is not talking to me, I guess I'll have to go with Jake. It doesn't seem bad....but I wish I was there with Alex. I texted Jake that I was going to accept his proposal.
Kathryn: Hey, Jake! I've been thinking alot about you asking me to go to the dance with you. I say "Yes!". Can't wait to see you tomorrow night :)
I took a deep breath and thought "It's okay. At least Jake isn't mad at me. I'll have fun tomorro--". Then I heard a message pop up in my phone. It was from Jake! I said...
Jake: YES!!! THANK YOU! YOU WONT REGRET THIS! I can pick you up at 7pm! I can't wait to see you too! :D :D :D
I laughed at the excitment of the text. Maybe it wont be as bad as I thought it would be. I got the shoes, the dress and the smile. I think I'm ready for tomorrow night!
~The Dance~
I finished putting my makeup, dress and shoes on. I just have to curl my hair a bit aaaaaand......done! Perfect! I'm all finished! I went downstairs to wait for Jake. My dad head tears in his eyes and said "My little sugar cube is growin' up". Then my mom started crying. I laughed and gave both of them a big bear hug. It's so heart warming to see my parents care so much. Then I heard a knock at the door. Jake was standing outside on the doorstep. I opened the door and Jake looked speechless. I blushed and my cheeks became rosy pink. He wore a black tux with a cute black bow on his collar. he held his hand out at me and I held it. He guided me to his car and we got ready to drive to the dance. I still can't believe he got his driver's licence at 15. Once we reached the dance, I got so shocked. The gym transformed into a complete dance floor. There were streamers hanging from the celling and a huge stage. There were tables set up around the dance floor that had candles as a center piece. It look like a royal ball, except with more modern music. Jake looked at me and said "My words are probably an understatement but, you look beautiful". I blushed and replied "You look handsome as well, Jake". We both smiled at each other and sat at a table. I feel a bit upset that I'm not here with Alex, but I wonder if he's here. I try looking for him, but most of the boys were wearing the same black tux. I looked behind me if he was there, but then I accidently stepped on my dress and was about to trip...but then again someone caught me. Man, when will I ever actually fall? I looked up to see who it was and it was Alex. He look dashing. His soft brown hair was spiked up and he wore a black tux with a dark blue tie. He got rid of his glasses, so I can see his jade green eyes. We both starred at each other for a moment until we zoned back into real life. He pushed me up so I could stand striaght. We didn't talk to each other for while. We just...stood there. He looked at me and I looked at him. Then he finally spoke... "You look great, tonight!". I faked a smile "So do you! Who's your date?"
"I didn't come with one" He sighed.
"Oh, that's a shame. I thought you would've came with one of those girls you do homework for" I joked.
"Ha ha ha, very funny" he said. Then we stayed quiet for a while. I was about to ask him something, but then he dissapeared. I looked around me, but he was not there. I shrugged and went back to my seat. Then I heard taps on the mic and one of the cheerleaders saying "What's up, Eagle Ridge High!!! Welcome to this year's Summer of Fun Dance! I am pleased to anounce that we will be having the King and Queen of the dance awards in just a minute! So stay close with your dates and keep on dancing!". I totally forgot that they were going to have that King and Queen thing! I tried to look for Jake, but he was no where to be seen.
