"We're going to the pack house. Jax needs your help to identify the guys who were following you. If you don't mind, that is." Declan said, breaking the silence as we traveled back home.
"Sure." I agreed to him. I took a deep breath, preparing myself to face Dante again.
Although I felt a weird hallow feeling when we were far from each other, I couldn't help to get nervous as we reached the meadows, passed Grandma's house and followed the dirt road to the village.
By the time we turned into the stone road with oaks on its side, and as the big wooden house came to my view, the warm pull notified me that Dante was close by. So when we reached the entryway of the pack house, I didn't even know who was the most nervous, me, Declan or Dante. The later was pacing back and forth in front of the big house, both hands were on his head causing his unruly dark hair sticking out in every possible directions.
I hadn't had the chance to take the full view of the pack house because as we enter the driveway Dante run to the car and yanked its door on my side even before it fully stopped. Declan cursed at his brother and left us, but not before reminding us that Jax was waiting in his office.
Ignoring his brother, he took off my seatbelt and pulled me into a tight hug, even if I was still in the car. The moment he touched me, it was as if something clicked inside. Admitted or not, his whole being already made a place in my heart.
"Can't breathe." I said, patting his back. He was still in the same clothes as when I left him, but damn, he smelled so good it was intoxicating.
He let go of me a bit, just so he could looked at me properly. His grey eyes were searching mine, while brewing even darker storm and emotions that I couldn't decipher.
"You shouldn't have left this morning." He flicked my forehead.
I blinked, not dare to say anything that would upset him more.
"You'll be the death of me." He then proceeded with a kiss on my forehead, pulling me in his tight hug again while muttering either both cursed words and soothing words in rush.
If it was in any other circumstances, I'd laugh at his amusing act, the big black wolf was on the brink of breaking down. But I kept my mouth shut and patted his back as my replies. He let out a heavy sigh and rested his forehead on mine.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked him after he quieted down, meeting his eyes. He looked like he'd gone to hell and back. He was no better than when I saw him in my room at the clinic after the church attack.
Pulling back, he smiled grimly. "I should be the one asking you that."
"It was my fault. I didn't realize that my phone died, but Declan found me."
He flicked my forehead again. I cried, "that hurts, you know."
"If anything, it was his fault. He shouldn't have left you alone. He even shouldn't have took you to that town. He put you in danger." He ranted again, and it was difficult to stop.
I rolled my eyes. I shouldn't have said that if I'd known he'd be like that.
He shifted his gaze to look at the house, sighing heavily. "We should get inside. They're waiting for you."
There were about seven people already in Jax's office, but other than him I only recognized Declan and Dante. He introduced me to them and quickly get into the matter.
Jax showed me some photos laid on his table and asked me to point the persons who were following me. After carefully look at the photos, I recognized the man and woman who were following me among them.
