Silence was deafening. That saying was really true. The only sound was our breathing. Deep inside I could feel Dante's emotions making havoc, but outside, he looked calm, or trying to.

What did I want? What was the purpose of my life? What was my task as a witch? Why I was given such power? Grandma's questions kept replaying in my head.

Looking up, I saw Dante slowly moved from his seat, standing and started to walk to his door. Head down, his back was sagged.

I breathe deeply then said, "okay."

He stopped and turned to look at me. "Okay?"

"Yeah, let's take a small step at a time."

"Are you sure?" He took a step closer. "Because there will be no way back. You cannot get back on your words. Promise?"

I nodded. "Alright."

"Really?" He asked again, smiling wide.

I smiled back, "yeah, let's try .. ouch!"

Before I could finish my answer, he tackled me and pinned me on his bed. His face was only an inch from mine, grinning even wider. "No way back, okay. You're mine for the longest run."

"What?"

He chuckled. "Hey, you've agreed. It's a lifetime contract."

"Lifetime? I just said, I'll try." I teased him again.

He searched the truth behind my question in my eyes, smirked when he knew that I was only joking, then attacked me with his kisses until I couldn't breathe.

"Dante, stop. Small steps, remember?" I pushed him gently when his hands slipped into under my t-shirt, caressing my small back and creating ripples of tingles down my spine.

I could feel him smirking in between his kisses when he noticed me shuddering from his touch. I cupped his face and glared at him.

He flicked my forehead and rolled over, lying down on his back. "Thanks for accepting me, Jace."

I shrugged dismissively. I had a feeling that accepting him was only the easiest part.

"Now what?" I turned to look at him.

"Now we deal with the hardest part." He also turned to look at me. One hand under his head, another hand playing with my hair.

"What do you mean?" I scrunched my eyebrows.

"Keep us secret." He sighed.

I sat up, looking at him curiously. "What did you say?"

"It's for your own safety, a precaution." He spoke in sad tones. "Besides our family and small trusted circle, no one should know that you're my mate. So we should pretend that we're not together. We will act as friends, like before."

"I don't get it. Why we need such precaution? Are you sure it's not because you already have a girlfriend?"

He sat up and held my hands, smirking. "Now that I remember, I do have a girlfriend. She's you."

I glared at him, though I was obviously blushing, but that was not the point. "Seriously, Dante."

"I love it when you said my name." He said dreamily before he coughed a little and schooled his expression. "There's something that you should know. I'm sorry, I should have had this talk with you before you agreed to accept me."

"I'm listening." I crossed my arms. He was getting on my nerves already. I doubted that he would tell me before, anyway.

"Being my mate is dangerous. They'll after you, just like they were after Sophie." Dante threw his gaze away. "Sophie is, was, Declan's mate. She was missing after some hunters found her, about three years ago. We believe that she's dead, but Declan believes that she's still alive, just missing."
