Sword and Shield.(A Steven x Connie fanfiction)[StevenUniverse]

Chapter 1:

Steven had just heard a loud crash from the outside, the screen door flying open with a loud creak as both Steven and Connie sit straight up, suddenly awoken from their slumber. Steven quickly gets off of the floor, Connie was perfectly fine with Steven sleeping in the same bed as her but he didn't want to accidentally kick her off, as he is a restless sleeper. Lion yawns and stands up, previously used by Steven as a pillow. The gems rush out of their rooms and to the porch, jumping down as Steven looks towards Connie "Uh...stay here, ok? I'll be right back." Steven says as he runs behind the gems, jumping and using the bubble to break his fall. Once he's down to the beach he finds the gems staring at the large creature, its gem inside of an invulnerable shell, the only weapon able to reach is Rose Quart's sword. This was a problem however, as Steven had not been able to pull the sword from its sheathe, even with the gems' help. "Guys? What is that thing?" Steven asks his allies which were in a trancelike state, Garnet finally finds her voice and speaks up in her usual accent "It is a monster that we fought long ago, Rose was about to claim the gem but it disappeared. This is the first time it has shown itself in centuries, as far as we know at least." Pearl looks towards Steven with a worried expression "It is extremely dangerous to gems, even more so to you since you're half human...but wait, isn't your friend Connie staying over? Please tell me that you left her somewhere safe!" Her eyes dart from Steven to the beast that they must face, frowning at its asymmetry. "We're going to need Ro-...your sword to take this foul, disgusting monstrosity out." Pearl says right as Steven hears the familiar creak of the screen door, looking towards it as his eyes widen and he gasps. "Connie! Get back inside!" He tries to warn her but she is in the same trancelike state that the gems were in, she finally speaks after a moment "W-what...what is that thing?!" She yells loudly, the unnamed freak looking directly at her and starting to move towards the young girl.
