Sword and Shield.(A Steven x Connie fanfiction)[StevenUniverse]

Stevonnie's Fall, Connie's Rise

Stevonnie yelled as she charged, running towards the beast while dodging acid spit and raising her spiked shield and sword. Unlike the first time they fused, a bright pink armor covered the fusion, matching the weapons. Every attack that the monster sent towards them was deflected, Steven's side intent on protecting the other half. He slightly defused on one attack that he couldn't block, making a split in the middle to skillfully dodge the sharp leg of their opponent. As soon as the leg was drawn back he went back to being completely fused, his mother's gem giving him skills of fighting that only a gem commander could know. Fighting to protect felt natural to him, but he knew that was only because he was with Connie.

She was doing just fine in the fight until she got closer, but then it shot out one of its protective plates, splitting the fusion apart and sending Connie flying forward. As she neared it the beast captured her in it's mouth, not trying to hurt her but subduing her. What it did try to hurt was Steven, who it hit towards a wall but was saved by Lion. Steven flew into the alternate world in Lion's mane and was shocked when he got to the land, where a bubble let him in and allowed him to breathe. But his breath was still taken away when he got to his feet, someone was standing there in his pet's mane.

His mother was standing there, smiling at him and patting a space next to her on the ground. Her voice was soft and gentle as she spoke, making Steven tear up. "Steven...you've grown up so much. You've become so much like your father." She laughs a bit, but then her son realized she didn't have a gem, in it's place was skin the same color as everything else about her, pink. "M-mom? How are you here?! Where's your gem?!" His voice broke a bit from sadness and happiness at the same time, he finally got to meet his own mother. He sat down and waited for her response, which she was obviously thinking over before she spoke. "When you were born, I was so happy. But I had to give up my gem, yet I wanted so much to see you grow up. So I became this lion, it was my only way to make sure you stayed safe... Unfortunately I couldn't transform after I gave up my gem. But now I can reveal myself to you, it's been so long and I've regained my strength, but still this is all I can do for now. Please, save your friend...for me." She disappeared slowly, as did the bubble around them. Steven stood there in complete and utter shock, his mother was his Lion, his Lion wasn't a guy. His mother was alive!  Each thought ran through his head like lightning until he could no longer breathe.

He then dove out of the alternate world, screaming as he chased after the monster that had Connie trapped. He managed to put a bubble around the beast but it was crushed easily from the inside. The creature then ran into the water, along with his best friend.
