Practice had just ended after a long day. As I passed some water bottles out my phone would not stop chiming, indicating a new text message. I sighed and went to mute it for the moment.
"Someone's popular," Koushi pointed out with a smile.
"Ugh, I knew I shouldn't have given Kuroo my number. He loves spamming me for some reason," I explained exasperatedly.
He smile turns into a smirk, "Oh? Kuroo huh?"
"S-Shut up it's not like that!" I immediately shut him down, turning around to walk towards the other boys. I heard him chuckling as I approached the orange haired boy. "Shoyo," I called out, tossing him a water bottle. He and I seemed to bond after the Nekoma practice match and he insisted on me calling him by his first name. He now refers to me as 'Miko-nee' which he insisted on as well, not that I have any complaints.
"Tobio-chan," I called and tossed him a bottle as well.
"You're right. That's amazing." Tobio-chan, Shoyo, and I all turned to see Koushi and Tanaka sitting by Noya who had a volleyball magazine open. "The picture's huge."
"Yeah," Tanaka contributed while Asahi walked over to them, peering over Noya's shoulder.
"What, what?" He seemed to study the pages for a second before making a noise of awe.
"What? What's that?" Shoyo asked as the three of us went over to them.
"Look," Tanaka handed Shoyo the magazine. Tobio-chan and I peered over his shoulders. I took a look at the pages and immediately tensed up, not able to look away from the picture.
"Shiratorizawa's Ushiwaka is among the three most-noticed high schoolers in the whole country."
"Tch," I looked away in disinterest, not wanting to hear more.
"Shiratorizawa!" Shoyo exclaimed. "That's where Kageyama couldn't get in."
"Shut up!"
"Who's Ushiwaka?" Shoyo asked.
"You don't know?" Tanaka asked, leaning back on his palms.
Koushi smiled, grabbing his crisscrossed legs, "That's because you're only a fan of the Little Giant."
"Let me tell you about Ushiwaka." I sighed and sat down next to Koushi, waiting for Tanaka to continue. "He's unmistakably the number-one ace in the prefecture: Ushijima Wakatoshi."
"Hmm, he definitely has 'ace' written all over him." Daichi said, appearing out of nowhere.
"He's got jackass written all over his face too," I said, finally speaking out my distaste for the ace.
"You got a history with this guy?" Tanaka asked. "Do I need to beat him up?!" He suddenly had a dark look on his face as he rolled up his sleeves.
I chuckled, Tanaka's seriousness lightening you up as you waved him off, "It's all in the past."
He went to continue before Koushi cut him off, "Kageyama, you were trying to get into a place with guys like this?"
"And you were going to yell at the super high-school ace," Tanaka said, luckily for me seeming to forget about your comment about Ushiwaka. "Move faster, clumsy oaf! And stuff, right?"
"I wouldn't say that!" Kageyama blatantly said.
"If we don't defeat him, we can't play against Nekoma." I looked to where Shoyo's eyes were still glued to the picture of Ushiwaka.
"All the more reason to beat him!" I said gleefully. "Now put that thing down before you blind yourself with his face," you added scornfully.
Before anyone could comment on your statement Ukai-san came from behind us all. "Hey, hey. Shiratorizawa isn't the only formidable opponent."
