A she-cat licked her single black kit
warm from the storm raging on
outside. "Spirit?" the she-cat asked
softly. "Cherrie? Mama?" Spirit said. "I'm right here," Cherrie said. She
picked up the kit and traveled to their
shelter. "Scorch!" Cherrie called.
"Yes?" A gray-and-black tom came
out. "Can you get some food for
Spirit?" Cherrie asked. "Of course,"
Scourch said. Spirit opened her eyes.
"Cherrie?" She asked. "You opened
your eyes!" Cherrie gasped. Spirit
tried to go outside. "Now, Spirit, don't
go outside yet. It's too cold." "Cherrie!" Spirit whined. Then she saw
the other side of the cave. "Oh, what's tha-" She was interupted when
Scourch came back. "What's that icky stuff?" She asked. "That's freshkill, my
little fighter." Scourch said. "Yeah, I'm your little fighter!" Spirit said. "Ok
Spirit, try some." Cherrie said gently.
Spirit wrinkled her nose. "Ew!" She
said. "You must!" Cherrie said. "Fine,"
Spirit sighed.

The little family bumped into another
when they were traveling. "Who are
you?" Scourch growled. "We don't
mean any harm," The brown she-cat said. "We just need some freshkill for
Raven over here." The she-cat mobed
to reveal a black kit about the same
age as Spirit. "Yes, please let us
through," A dark-brown tom said. "I
am Talon and this is Hawk." He said.
"How about we travel together?"
Scourch offered.
