I stand in front of the hotel mirror and stare at myself, my weaknesses apparent to me. I've been up since Six Thirty a.m., getting dressed and ready for the drive to my new school. Although I'm human and don't even have magic I was accepted into the Béta Academics Academy also known as Thyme Academy. I know it will be hard to be in a school where humans are considered weak and useless, but I have plans and many involve the school and its students.
The door opens and my cousin walks in, I stare at him, jealousy spiking in the pit of my abdomen. He was a vampire, it was rare for a human to be related to a vampire but his mom fell in love with my uncle, after a few years of their love affair his mom was pregnant with him. Though it is rare for humans and vampires to conceive, it does happen and my blonde perfect cousin is one of the results of this.
"Good morning," I moved away from the mirror and walked over to my suitcase. "Just let me pack up a few more things and I'll be ready."
"Your mom wanted to talk to you and you weren't answering your phone, so she called me," I walk over to my phone on the night stand and see I have three missed calls all recent I frown at the fact that I didn't hear it, but I brush it off since Taryn was still staring at me.
"Thank you, Taryn," I put my phone in my back pocket and zip up my suitcase, before I could lift it off the bed, Taryn did.
"A lady shouldn't have to carry her bags," he walks out of the room with my suitcase in hand. I don't complain but I do mind. It means he thinks I'm weak.
Once I get to the elevator I see Taryns mom waiting for me at the end of the hall. I walk up to her and shift my backpack on my shoulders. I scold myself because even though I don't want to, I'm still afraid of her.
"Good morning," I pause then add. "Ma'am."
"You're lucky to have a cousin like Taryn," she says. "He'll protect you when the time comes and I hope you appreciate what he does for you."
"I do Aunt Marty," I say putting a small smile on my face. "And I appreciate you too, I'm happy to have you both in my family."
She nods approvingly and leads me to the lobby while she checks out me and Taryn talk about the school that he is also attending. When we get in the car I put my earbuds in and think about how I didn't mean a word I had said to Marty.
Once we arrive to the airport, that will take us to the city by the school, I pack the books I had taken out of my backpack and get ready to take off.
"Here, you should let me take care of that," Taryn puts his hand on my bag but I push it aside.
"I'd like to carry it myself If you don't mind," I hope his mom didn't see me push his hand but I'm tired of him pretending to be polite and nice when just two years ago he stopped talking to me over text and completely ignored me.
We get on the plane in first class, I get a seat in front of Marty and Taryn and enjoy the silence and relief of not having to be polite since Marty is the one paying my tuition fee.
The peace is short lived as a tall man gets on the plane and looks straight at me and walks towards me. I look up at him wondering why he's just standing in front of me when he sits down.
Even though we are in Europe there are no true Europeans here so it doesn't surprise me when his eyes glint a red tone. Many creatures have red eyes but I can tell he's a Demon from the black nails that protrude from his finger tips.
He makes himself comfortable then gets his phone out and checks the time. I turn my head away from him and look out the window but I turn back around and stare at him. He looks at me strangely then goes back to ignoring me.
"Hello, you wouldn't happen to be Thelin Veils," I say to him sounding hopeful. His face takes on a smug look.
"I am actually, are you a fan," he shifts in his seat to face me. I nod and grab a piece of paper from my bag.
"Can I have an autograph. It's just I've always been a big fan of your movies," it actually wasn't a lie I did enjoy his movies just not him or his acting. He signs my paper.
"Thank you so much I really appreciate it," I carefully place the paper in my notebook then pack it away in my backpack. I sit quietly hoping Thelin won't want me to talk to him.
"I usually go in first class so none of my fans recognize me since the majority of them are... well you know, poor people and I ..."
I listen to Thelin and can't believe what a child he is, he doesn't care for his children and spends most of his time yelling at his assistant, from what he's told me.
When the plane lands my cousin comes up to me and without asking carry's my bag for me, a muscle in my jaw tics as I watch him walk away but I notice his mom staring so I smile at her.
We get to the car that will be taking us to the school. After the day we've had it's already eight, and starting to get dark.
"First we're going to dinner with one of my clients then we will head to the school," Marty says while looking at her phone. "He's in town to drop off his son for school although he doesn't go to the same one as you guys."
"Aunt Marty I was wondering if I could skip out on the dinner I'm so-"
"No you have to come to the dinner it's important that you... do," Marty was never one to hold harsh words back so her explanation was interesting. "Anise your an important figure head for your kind so it would be very helpful for you to come with," oh so that was what this was about.
