The car pulls up to a curb in an ally way with little to no people around, my heart beats faster. I pull a curl behind my ear and swallow bile as I see a sign that has a wrist spilling blood into a liquor cup. That sign means two things; the place we are at is extremely expensive and that this place is for vampires who have a taste for human blood.
"Are you nervous?" My aunt stares at me from the front seat with a glint to her eyes that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.
"No, I'm just..." my voice falters as I see a boy appear from a door on the far side of the building we're near. He covers his face with a hand that slowly makes its way to his hair which reveals his face scrunched into what I can assume is him crying. His head snaps toward our car as Taryn opens his door. His face forms into a mask of indifference as Taryn opens my door for me. I look down as a flush rushes to my neck and ears. I look like a fool for not finishing my sentence and staring at a random spot outside of the car.
"Thanks, Taryn," I say as I step out of the car. I look back at the door on the other side of the ally as Taryn sets a hand on my back to guide me to the double set doors with warm inviting light peeking through the windows.
Before we had gotten to the dinner, we had to stop at a shop to change our clothes, apparently my clothes aren't good enough for the meeting with my aunts client. I was now wearing a backless dress that covered my neck and arms. I found the design of it pointless because now my back was cold. But the dress surprisingly had amazing support for the double D's on my chest. The soft lavender of the dress had me transfixed on it and the softness had me tracing small circles with my middle finger.
"Hopefully that happens," Aunt Marty finished her conversation with her assistant when we got to the lobby of the restaurant. "Anise what are you doing over there come here."
I quickly walk to her across the small room and she puts her hand on my back. I smile as she gushes about me to her assistant and the employees as they try to gather her jacket and seat her. When we sit down it's in this room that looks like it was made of gold. The velvet cushions on the seats and walls glimmering with gold and the reflected colors of our clothes. One weakness of mines was the fact that I could get distracted by anything and everything. As I sat in one the chairs surrounding the big round table in the middle of the flour I kept glancing at the draped walls. I loved the way the lavender from my dress reflected and mixed with the gold-ish drapes covering the walls.
"Thelin, how wonderful that your joining us," Aunt Marty walks over to him giving him a kiss on each cheek before leading him to sit with her at the table. "Wow Thelin you never fail to impress."
"Thank you Marty you know I love a good dinner, I had this suit made specially for me with one of Jess's new prodigies. I think I might actually have to hire him for myself when I'm not doing my movies. Did you know that I ..." Thelin goes on while I try to figure out why he's here. It clicks in two seconds that he's her client. I watch as Taryn sits to the right of me before two boys come into the room. My heart sputters as they look around the room their cherry blond hair glimmering in the gold making it look as if it were made for them. I lower my eyes and sit up straighter to ease the pain from the chairs backrest.
"Oh I remember her now she's the girl that sat next to me on the plain. Haha I remember she has excellent taste in movies," I tune back into the one sided conversation as Thelin smiles at me. "Oh would you look at her, she's not bad for a human I always told my sister that I liked them chocolate. My god and those breasts."
"What the fuck," my eyes widen as I sink back into my chair, my hands and arms rising instinctively to cover my self while everyone bristles at what just happened.
"Anise is that any way for a young lady to talk," Aunt Marty scolds. I gape at her then look to Taryn who is staring at both Thelin and Aunt Marty in shock. "You should be thankful that Thelin Veil is giving you compliments. I'm sorry Thelin I think she's had a tiresome day."
"Oh that's just grand I like my women with a bite," Thelin says with a lewd look my way,Aunt Marty laughs at this and glances at me with steel in her eyes. I guess anything goes for Aunt Marty when it came to her business deals but my eyes pricked as she brushed me off. I glance around the room embarrassed and catch the gaze of one of the blondes. Judging by his and his brothers appearance they were twins. He looked at my eyes then his lowered. My cheeks and ears reddened. He looked back up and glanced at me from under his lashes his mouth quirking into a smirk. I turn my head towards my plate and wish I had kept my coat. The waiters came and started taking orders.
I was glad there were so many seats between me and the blondes who sat next to their father. And on Taryns side there were at least five chairs between him and his mom who was seated right next to Thelin.
"Can we wait a couple more minutes, my friend is on her way here she got caught in traffic," Aunt Marty says to the waitress and she sets her liquid death drink back on the table. I glance up for the first time in a couple minutes disappointed that there were still more guests. I glance at the waitress as she nods and walks away. My eyes follow her to the exit and I realize that I've had two cups of wine and I have to pee. I scoot the chair back and head to the door.
"Where are you going Anise," Aunt Marty asks.
"I just had to use the restroom for a ... bit," trying to think through the hazy mist that's floated into my mind is harder than I had thought. I guess I was tipsy from the wine but I hadn't noticed a difference.
"Oh the poor thing, looks like she's drunk off of wine," Aunt Marty says she glances at Taryn. "Honey you should help her to the bathroom."
As Taryn starts moving from his seat the quieter twin says. "I can take her."
