Obsidian knew that she was a fusion, but she had never felt like anyone other than herself. The thought of unfusing... it was terrifying. The Crystal Gems had fused permanently... right?

Obsidian ran out of the cafeteria, Deku and the other 1A students she had been sitting with yelling after her to come back. Deku had asked her to unfuse, asked her to stop existing just so he could meet the people who decided to give up their individual lives to create her. The thought of it all was too much, too consuming.

She sprinted to her van, grabbing the letters that the Crystal Gems had left her before shooting up into the sky, above the clouds. Obsidian had found out a long time ago that this was a great place for her to sort out what was going on in her head.

She thumbed through the letters before finding the one that Pearl left her.

Although you are the result of Steven, Garnet, Amethyst, and I fusing, you are an entirely unique being. Completely yourself! Everything we care about, everything we love, will become you. You, Obsidian, are a completely new experience. -Pearl

Obsidian read those sentences over and over again, and before long it was dusk. She decided it was time to come down, and delicately placed her feet on the ground once she neared the soft grass.

"Where have you been? We had everyone out searching for you. We thought someone had taken you or-" Aizawa ran up and starting shaking Obsidian's shoulders, but she just crumpled to her knees.

"He...asked me to unfuse." Obsidian gripped the letters in her hand harder, before looking up at Aizawa. His mouth opened slightly before closing again.

"Let's just get you back to your van so you can get some sleep. We can talk more in the morning." And with that, he led Obsidian to her van. She passed out as soon as her head hit the pillows.

When Obsidian first woke up, there were a few seconds where she forgot about the events of yesterday. She felt at peace for those few moments before all the memories came flooding back to her.

She threw open the doors of the van, only to find Aizawa and Principal Nezu waiting for her outside. Principal Nezu held out a hand.

"How about we go talk to the other students? I think clearing things up with them might help." He gave Obsidian a warm smile as she nodded, leading her out of the van and onto the wet grass.

Obsidian was amazed as she walked through the hallways of UA for the first time. Sure, she had been in the arena and cafeteria, but the main building was so much bigger than both of them combined.

Aizawa stopped in front of a large door.

"This is the classroom. Are you sure you want to meet everyone now? I don't want to overwhelm you." Aizawa placed a hand on Obsidian's shoulder.

"Yeah, I do. And I don't think I could get more overwhelmed, so might as well." She let out a soft laugh before stepping into the classroom.

As soon as she walked in, all of the chatter stopped. Deku jumped to his feet, looking like he was about to cry.

"Obsidian! I am so sorry! I had no idea-" he was cut off by Aizawa.

"This isn't your fault, Midoryia. Principal Nezu and I should have explained what Obsidian is... who Obsidian is before we allowed you all to meet her. But before any of that, for anyone who has not yet had the chance to introduce themselves to her, this is Obsidian." Obsidian gave a small wave to all the students, suddenly aware that she was the only one not wearing the uniform. She adjusted the t shirt Steven had left her, realizing that it didn't even cover her stomach.
