The next few days pass by in a blur.

We stick to our regular agenda of hot chocolate and coffee before going out to rid the world of infected. Everything was going according to plan until about halfway through our outing, we got an unusual broadcast feed from our walkie-talkie.

It was hard to understand and very grainy but we could make our key details. "We need to regroup as soon as possible." A young female woman said, over the broadcast. "She is the only way to end this outbreak and fix the world. Even if the surgery kills her she should be willing to sacrifice herself for everyone." The feed cuts out for a moment but I quickly shake the device and it connects to it again. "She was ready and prepped for the surgery." This times it's a mans voice. "If not for her father, we would have gotten the cure and we wouldn't still be living in this shit-hole hiding out from the world."

I look over at Amy who's got disbelief all over her face.

"They're talking about the immune girl situation that happened 3 years ago." She tells me. "My sister would help out at the camp the fireflies had set up a few blocks from where our family was living. She would tell me stories all day of all the people she helped, and I could just listen to her talk all day long."

A few tears slide down her cheeks.

Ever since her sister was lost due to getting shot by hunters (people who would kill innocents and eat them) Amy hasn't been the same. I want to change the subject but we need to continue listening if we're going to find out more information.

"We're setting up camp in Vancouver, Canada." It's the women's voice. "Make sure to tell all of the surviving Fireflies near you to start making their way over. I look forward to seeing you Cole." I quickly make a mental note of his name. "I look forward to see you again as well Anna." The broadcast going silent and we sit there in disbelief. Vancouver is far away, but on horseback it shouldn't take too long.

We head back to Jackson, still processing the information we just found out. We decide to stop for a quick break.

I can't stand the look of horror on Amy's face, reminding me of my own trauma from my past. It's still nothing compared to what she's had to go through. I try to comfort her, but there's not much I can do.

As our legs dangle from our favorite look-out tree, my hand brushes against hers. This has happened thousands of times before, but it's never felt like this before. I catch our eyes lock, and immediately turn away, unable to process my feelings. My hand darts back, and I hop down from the tree.

I race home, unsure of myself.
