No. No no no no no. This was not happening. It couldn't be. This was impossible. All of it.
I ran outside to my Toyota, and yanked the door open.

"Babe! Wait! I can ex-" Luke started, but I slammed the door in his face.

He ran up to my door and pulled on the handle, but I was faster. I locked the car door and shoved the key I to the ignition, tears hurting my head and blurring my vision. Luke desperately pounded on the window, calling my name and begging me to stop.

"Cora, babe please I'm so sorry. Cora please. Please Cora please."

I backed the shiny Toyota down the driveway, ignoring his petty shouts.

"Open this door now! Cora, now!" Luke screamed, and I could see his eyes puffing up. He was crying too.

I quickly got the car out of the driveway and sped down the street. Luke ran after me, but stopped after a couple seconds.

I drove for hours on end. I shut my phone off, because I had 52 missed calls from Luke and 204 texts. My long black hair was a tangled mess, and my face has dry makeup and tears stained on it. My light green eyes looked so pained.

Me and Luke lived in Nevada, near Vegas. We'd go out with friends some nights and play in the casino. That was the main reason we'd moved there, actually. Las Vegas, the lights and the casinos. The money.

I shook my head and pulled over on the side of the freeway. Turning the ignition off, I set my face in my hands and cried. I cried for fifteen minutes, then I wiped my face and looked at myself in the rearview mirror.

I looked so distraught. I really was. I mean, walking in on your fiancé laying another woman was pretty hard to explain. There was no explanation.

Starting up the ignition again, I slowly started down the freeway. It took me a few seconds to realize I'd driven all the way to California. Jeesh.

I kept driving and driving. I had a few 5-hour energy pills left, and I swallowed two. That should hold me off for awhile.

I stopped at Leah's place, just off the coast. She let me in, no questions. I was really grateful for that. Leah was my lifelong friend, a sister to me.

"I'm gonna go on a quick walk along the coastline." I stated, already out the door.

It was a nice night. The sky was a metallic blue and the moon shine like a lightbulb, reflecting across the ocean like a blanket. It was one of the prettiest sights, on the shittiest day of my life.

I dug my toes into the sand, and sauntered along the coastline. My mind kept reflecting back to Luke.

Suddenly, I'd had enough.

I pierced the air with high shrieks and violent curses, and ripped my engagement ring off. With all my might, I heaved it across the water.
