It's been 2 days.
2 days since I ran away from home. I don't regret it. It was too meaningless to stay where people don't accept you the way you are. Where instead of humans, there are monsters. Cold-hearted beasts who worship abhorrent traditions. I didn't want to be a part of their cruelty. So here I am. Amid tall-looking trees and rugged rocks.
I had slowed down my pace a while ago. Tired of running, I had decided to sit down on a rock in a small clearing I came across. Nature calmed my senses a bit. I still had my guard up in case they found me.
My train of thought came to a stop when I suddenly saw something flash through the trees. I stood up in a panic. No, it can't be possible! They couldn't have found me! I've been running for too long! I looked around hastily trying to analyze my surroundings.
Crack. The sound of a twig snapping caught my attention. I almost screamed in pain as my head whipped towards the source of the sound. Something was telling me to run. I don't know if it was the eerie silence of the woods or the gentle bristle of the wind. So I did what I'm best at.
I ran.

"You're getting married."
What?!
The old man sitting in front of me gave me a solemn look. Turns out that's what they were here for. I was going to get married to Mr.Park's son. My parents were supposed to tell me about this a long time ago but they couldn't as grandma wouldn't let them get me married to some stranger. Now that she's dead, they won't hold back anymore.
"You're kidding me, right? What do you mean I'm getting married? I still haven't met my soulmate I can't just marry some unknown person!" I was confused and desperate. My parents wouldn't do this to me, right?
"Minyoung how many times should I tell you soulmates don't exist. Your grandma fed you bullshit! We exist in this world to carry on our generation, not to get distracted by some sort of made-up love!" Father screamed at me furiously.
"You don't mean it." Tears welled up in my eyes.
"I do. And you're getting married whether you like it or not." He then turned to Mr.Park." Let's set the date at soon as possible. I believe the day after tomorrow would be great for the wedding."
Mr.Park nodded his head in return. I was furious. I couldn't do anything under the surveillance of my parents. It was pathetic honestly. I guess that's what grandma meant when she said her mate was killed. Maybe she tried to object to her marriage. I can't do that. I still don't know who my mate is.
Noticing my distress, the old man turned toward me with a smile.
"Hey now don't be so sad. I'm sure Mr.Park's son will take care of you. You must learn that mates don't exist. We need to make sure you get married to someone who is the right one for you. And I'm sure you'll love your soon-to-be husband," He said.
I wanted to puke. This was too much for me. Wanting to be alone, I hurriedly stood up and ran upstairs to my room. I locked the door and threw myself on my bed. The mate bond will break the moment I get married and I haven't even met my mate yet. I didn't get out of my room the whole day and cried the whole night feeling sorry for my unknown mate.
