Minyoung's POV
after deciding that I couldn't sit here forever, I stood up and headed to wherever I felt like. wherever I could find peace and comfort. I had partly accepted my fate of dying in this forest alone. i know i was being dramatic but what can I do when I have nowhere to go.
lost in my thoughts, I started humming. it was a song grandma used to sing to me. "it was made to cure hearts and rest minds". she said. it was the same song my grandpa played for her when they got into their first fight. he had climbed up her window at night and woke her up with a guitar in his hand and a melodious voice to go with it. I just know he didn't leave without a proper beating after that.
I chuckled to myself. this was the kind of story I wanted to tell my kids too.
sighing loudly, I started humming even louder.
"What is that song young lady?"
I jumped in surprise and looked to my left to find an old woman smiling at me.
she laughed at my shocked face and proceeded to come nearer. a small basket with fresh flowers kept swinging in her hand and her brown boots made a crunching sound on the ground with each step she took.
I backed up in surprise and fear as I didn't expect someone to be roaming this place.
"Hey, don't be scared now. I won't do you any harm. it's just the song you're singing." she said slowly.
"song?" I scrunched my eyebrows, confused.
then I realized she meant the song I was humming.
opening my mouth in realization, I smiled a little before telling her.
"oh, it's just a song my grandma used to sing to me. she used to say it calmed her down in stressful situations. so I'm doing the same."
"ah! well tell her it's a lovely song." the lady chuckled.
"I would if she was alive," I said slowly, smiling at the thought.
"aah what a shame." the lady said sadly. "but if you don't mind me asking, what is a lovely girl like you doing alone in the woods?" she asked.
' i could ask the same for you' i thought but decided to say nothing. instead, I shrugged my shoulders not wanting to tell her the reason I've been wandering like this.
" well if you want you can come over and stay at my hut. it's not too far from here and I have enough room for you." the lady said pointing behind her.
I was still a bit skeptical of her sudden arrival and willingness to help me. but I figured I wasn't in a state to argue as she had stated it as more of a statement than a question. her actions following her words as she grabbed my hand and began to drag me in the direction she had just pointed at.
I wanted to say no. or anything at this point. but knowing that I won't survive another night in this cold forest I decided to say nothing and followed her.
the rest of our journey was her talking continuously about the various types of fruits and delicacies she has at her hut and how a girl like me shouldn't be left alone in a forest like this, while all I could think about was the boys and how I missed them.
yes. I missed them. a lot
I had figured this out while sitting under the tree a while ago. when I couldn't get them out of my head even when I tried to, I had come to terms that it might be because I missed their presence.
my train of thoughts came to a halt when the lady stopped abruptly and I almost bumped into her.
"This is it! Welcome to my humble abode!" she said, too cheerfully for my liking. Sunoo was cheerful too but unlike her, his energy was contagious. she just gave me pure chills.
" come inside. I'll make you a cup of tea so you can warm up," she said.
I went inside and it was a small room with a mattress in the corner, a table, a few small cushions and a small area with logs for the fire, and a teapot hanging over it with the help of a few sticks.
my mind immediately went back to where the boys lived and how different this place was to that huge place. which made me think how on earth was that mansion even built in the middle of a forest.
honestly, there were a lot more questions but I guess I was too tired to even think about them.

after eating the porridge made by the old woman, I was now laying on the floor, trying to sleep. the lady took the mattress all to herself saying she had back pain and now I was left on the floor without any pillow or cover to give me comfort.
I tossed and turned but sleep was still nowhere to be found. huffing loudly I stood up to get a glass of water from the small jug the lady filled from the river. the water wasn't entirely clean but there wasn't anything I could do about it anyways.
as I leaned against the wall, a loud sound caused me to jump and the glass fell from my hand, shattering into pieces on the floor.
the havoc caused the lady to wake up abruptly. she was first confused and then her face etched into horror and realization.
the sound kept getting louder and it took me a few seconds to realize it was the sound of someone knocking on the door.
I was about to go towards the door to open it when I felt someone pull me back.
"n-no don't!" the lady had an iron grip on my arms and her eyes were begging me to not open the door to whoever was on the other side of it.
"But why?" I questioned just as the knocking got harsher and harsher. I was very confused and just when it couldn't get weirder, black smoke started seeping through the door inside the hut.
"no! this can't be happening! all my life I waited for you and they can't just take you away!" the lady yelled, tugging me towards her. she was crying loudly, her face morphed into one of worry and pain.
just then the door slammed open and the smoke filled in like gas, blinding me completely. I heard the lady coughing and screaming for help. her grip on my arms loosened and she fell beside me, scratching at her throat.
then it all happened in a blink. a hand came out and pulled me out of the smoke towards the night in the forest. I was too much in a daze to even comprehend what was happening around me.
"minyoung! are you alright?!" a voice screamed. I turned around and saw him.
jay.
he held my shoulders tightly, bringing me into his embrace. behind me, I could feel the heat of fire now beginning to erupt.
the hut was on fire. each passing second, the flames grew, leaping at us as if to engulf us in its wrath.
"Close your eyes and no matter what do not open them! okay?!" he looked into my eyes.
I could hear the panic in his voice so I nodded and shut my eyes. then I felt it. a buzz of electricity went through me. it was as if I was being sucked into another dimension. my body was aching and burning with the intensity of the force. whimpering, I clutched to jay, holding his shirt in my fists.
and then it all stopped.
the sudden halt in momentum made me gasp for air. holding my hand to my chest, I opened my eyes to see us standing in front of the same huge mansion. the place where it all began.
