watching dolores interview and inquire about the teachers at hogwarts was disgusting. vanessa felt her stomach twist itself into knitted knots every time the creature entered her lessons. she had interrupted vanessa's private divination lesson with professor trelawney, her potions lesson with professor snape, as well as her transfiguration lesson with professor mcgonnagal. hermione informed vanessa that those were just a few of the lessons that were infringed upon.
it seemed that dolores would favor the slytherins, except for vanessa. most of the slytherins pined for dolores' attention, malfoy included. vanessa believed it was pathetic. there's a war coming, and they care about if a passing professor wants to give them a gold star on their exams. most of the slytherins were comfortable with the mediocrity that came with being feared, vanessa thought it was a shame to the slytherin name.
vanessa sat behind ron, harry and hermione, with evangeline. earlier in the morning, the elder weasleys had informed vanessa of their plan to release dungbombs on the professor. in short, the auclair was delighted. apparently filch had caught harry sending an owl, and he accused the student of ordering dungbombs. to see the pink worm thrash uncomfortably would bring her joy, so she was hopeful wherever the order form for the dungbombs was, that it would make it to the shops.
divination class began well. that was, until, dolores began to walk up and down the rows of students, investigating their notes, their books, their uniforms.
"today we will be continuing our interpretation of prophetic dreams. Please divide into your groups and discuss your recent night time visions using the text as a guide," trelawney directed. vanessa knew trelawney was hopeful to escape dolores' observation with minimal injury, especially in front of students.
evangeline shared with vanessa her dream, where she fell off her broom into a massive ocean. there wasn't much to it other than that, according to evangeline. evangeline wasn't a fan of oceans, or flying. vanessa understood how that would spook the young witch.
vanessa's nights had been sleepless as of late. visions of a dark corridor filled with locked doors kept her from resting. in her dreams, vanessa's hands tugged at every handle, to no avail. the dreams seemed repetitive. every time vanessa was asleep, she felt like she was frantically looking for an open door. vanessa attempted to ignore the dreams, thinking that more would come to fruition should it be something to pay any mind.
dolores interrupted the students and their groupwork.
"i understand you are the descendent of the famous seer cassandra telawney?" trelawney nodded with a small smile to dolores, "and you are the first since cassandra to have the second sight?"
it's always a trap with dolores. vanessa felt a scowl twist on her face. the auclair witch spent many hours with trelawney- the professor was truly a seer. many times the professor would help vanessa to her feet after collapsing at practice. the professor took the practice very seriously and it could be seen by the blind that dolores gave her no respect.
"these things tend to..." trelawney cleared her throat, nervous, "skip several generations."
umbridge began to chide with the professor, attempting to get a prophecy. harry unfortunately didn't do the professor any favors, after explaining how he dreamt of eating oatmeal.
evangeline could see that vanessa was worried for the divination professor. slowly, hermione turned to vanessa and gave her a look, one evangeline couldn't decipher.
the slytherin girl wasn't sure what happened to her friends over the summer. cooper returned as a different beast entirely. cooper became a lackey to the malfoy heir, scaring small children with threats and black clothing. cooper had ignored all of evangeline's letters from the summer. vanessa was the kinder of the two and wrote evangeline during the summer. however, evangeline could easily see that vanessa was bothered.
