getting off the hogwarts express, vanessa felt a little better about her family going underground for the order. her father had done it the last time voldemort had risen. auclair seers had power with many different creatures and clans, and the order would be foolish to not ask augustus and the family to not take advantage of that. however that set no precedent for vanessa to not worry for her parents every night. the quiet lull of the train had allowed her to really clear her mind and center herself. she needed to get it together. she had missions and tasks from the order of the phoenix, and the emotions she was feeling could not be getting in the way.

night had fallen unto the young students, and the air was cool. the dimmed light hid the exhaustion in vanessa's eyes and for that she was thankful. a light wind hung in the darkening night sky, and lightly flushed her cheeks.

walking next to ron behind harry and hermione, she heard malfoy begin to shout at harry, instigating a conflict. it interrupted their very interesting conversation about quidditch and the different positions that would be open on the gryffindor team.

"potter! i'm surprised the ministry is letting you walk free! better enjoy it while you can! there's a cell in azkaban with your name on it!"

ron had to restrain harry (who was fuming with anger and rage) while vanessa walked right up to her house mate, getting in his face. hermione panicked- she knew vanessa was no stranger to physical altercations, or using her powers when she was angry.

"malfoy you have two seconds to walk away, i will put you underground," the young witch threatened deathly quiet, her skin hot and veins bulging from all over her body, her body conformed into this vicious monster-esque facade.

vanessa was fearful creature herself, but she demanded respect, and she demanded to be feared in return. the young girl may be just that- a young girl, but she was powerful. she was power. she would be treated as such.

"what'd i tell you?" draco malfoy cleared his throat, pretending the threats of the young auclair did not scare him past recognizable english, "nutters, the lot of you,"

the malfoy boy, joined by his two lackeys quickly turned and sped away.

"just stay away from us!" harry shouted angrily after them, and set a hand on vanessa's shoulder after a tense moment. the young boy clearly was tired of something always happening to him, "thanks for that."

she turned and gave him a small smile. it was the first time he had really ever been nice to her. i guess respect really wasn't that difficult for him, it just needed to be earned. "yeah, sure,"

"you two got really that wound up over malfoy?" ron asked the two, "what did you expect?"

"he's a vile creature," vanessa spat, watching the three boys in suits grow smaller and smaller as they distanced themselves. "he deserves to be put in his place."

hermione gave a huff and put a hand reassuringly on the other girl's arm, agreeing. the students then headed towards the carriages to make the great feast.

"hello neville," vanessa smiled kindly at the longbottom boy. they had always been friendly, friendly enough for a first name basis, and for vanessa to distract malfoy when he was bothering neville so the boy could leave quietly and be freed from the bullying.

"hiya 'ness!" the young, bucktoothed wizard waved at her, excitedly. he was the first person she'd met in so long that was genuinely happy to see her. neville was always quite a kind young man.

"what's that?" harry asked, turning around, pointing to the thestral. "pulling the carriage"

vanessa looked from harry to the thestral, confused. "oh that's-"
