au revoir en larmes

harry's hearing had gone swimmingly, with a little help on vanessa's part.

after receiving a vision of a false guilty verdict, the young girl quickly gathered the group- she was the one who knew the minister was going to change the time of harry's hearing. it was a decision made only seconds before she had seen it, but she had been thankful she was given her sight. she could feel that something wasn't entirely honest about the way the minister was handling the proceedings, and decided to check in. it was more than evident that this was done on purpose.

immediately, the auclair witch had alerted dumbledore by patronus, kingsley, and the others. that was all she could do. harry and arthur had already left for the ministry, vanessa just hoped they had enough time to make it to the hearing so harry wasn't penalized further. watching for danger was her forte, how those then prepared for danger was not her business. she entrusted the others with this once the recountings of the vision left her mouth.

molly informed vanessa that word had reached them, and they had been informed in time. a breath of relief and a smile found itself on vanessa's face, before she gave a smile to the rest of the students who watched with mouths agape from the breakfast table. magic working so quickly was capable only by extremely skilled and powerful wizards, and the other hogwarts students staying at headquarters had no idea how strong vanessa truly was. hermione herself knew that the auclair family could do tenfold this. only vanessa knew dumbledore would be attending the hearing as a witness.

there was a reason that dumbledore had instructed the closest people in harry's life to keep things from him. connected to the deep dark circles under his eyes and the dementor attack, it was evidently assumed that it was related to voldemort. vanessa never questioned the acts of people like dumbledore, because she could tell, based on their souls, that they were genuine. she never understood how reading souls truly worked. that was advanced psychic magic. however, she knew that a seer could get a glimpse at a person's soul based on the way the person acts. it's the same as guessing a food based on how it smells and tastes, but not seeing it.

evidence always presented itself in the end.

the trial was days ago. the good news lifted the mood of the entire group, and the students were optimistic about their return to headquarters. oblivion and ignorance for a few days wasn't a safety vanessa was sure they could afford, but she never questioned it. she was spending much more time with her father, practicing, and learning more about the type of protections harry needed. now, they were headed to kings cross to board the hogwarts express. the sight of a black herding dog caused uproar throughout the group.

"padfoot, are you barking mad?" moody snapped at sirius, and vanessa stifled a laugh at his poor choice of words. "you'll blow the whole operation!"

the dog form of sirius had padded itself into a private coat room. harry followed closely. vanessa stood with moody, guarding the door, her arms were crossed, and her black clothing made her look much more threatening than she really was. at least, than she was at that moment.

"you alright, kid?" moody asked vanessa, eyeing her face, and she snapped out of her daze before turning back to her colleague.

"i'm worried about harry," vanessa spoke, nodding her head to the closed off room. "he's got quite a lot to fear, i'm afraid, but i cannot get a proper read on his soul the way i could the rest of yours. his seems... clouded. very few times has that every happened to me."

moody looked intrigued, and concerned. he looked at the young woman, "what has happened the other times you've seen it?"

flashbacks of terrible deaths, plagues, and raucous rebellions flooded her heart. her father taught her everything he could remember in the last few days about reading souls. "death, quite large bouts of death. he's experiencing something out of his control. dumbledore was right to keep him in the dark. something is wrong, but it's not his fault."
