Hawks shut the door to Harue's room slowly in an attempt to not disturb the child sleeping in the room. Hawks cringed at the light clicking noise before moving into the room across the hall. 9:00. Damn. Hawks was quick to get changed into his hero costume. He sighed deeply; a hero's job is never done. Or at least that's what they say. He walked back out of his room to the hall, only pausing for a moment to sense the gentle rhythmic heart beat in the other room. Hawks smiled letting a short breathy laugh to escape. Jeez, kid. Got me tip toeing around my own house. He continued and stepped out onto his balcony. It was high up, just like he liked it. He jumped up onto the railing looking down. Hawks had been so high so many times that the rush of being this close to falling no longer existed. He remembered when it use to terrify him. Trying his hardest to keep his eyes up, helplessly flapping his wings. He gladly looked down now. He crouched down, forearms resting on his knees. The wind blew through his dirty blonde hair. His body remained unmoved.
A small scowl crept onto his face, replacing his previously light smile. Get your head in the right space Hawks. Big night ahead of you. And with that final thought he stood lazily and dived forward, opening his wings to catch himself after a few feet. He adjusted his glasses on his face before moving the head phones on his shoulders to cover his ears. He was quick to fly between buildings, high enough to not be seen by most people. He lower to the ground at the end of an alleyway. He folded his wings behind to make them less noticeable. He turned away from the wall and walked back down the alley swiftly turning towards a door. He pushed it open, the familiar empty building filling his vision. He sensed one person in the room before he allowed himself to enter fully. He walked in towards the center of the empty room. There were cracks in the windows causing a whistling sound to echo through the room with every breeze that passed.
"Dabi." Hawks stated lowly. He kept his head forward only moving his eyes fully to the side. He wasn't scared he could sense every movement the man behind him made.
"Hero." replied the man behind him. His tone was nonchalant and bored. Like he had better things he would rather be doing. "Been a while hasn't it? You've been doing a lot of hero work over the past two weeks." Hawks sighed, but it was barely noticeable.
Hawks immediately perked up a little, his eyes appearing brighter. He put his hands up defensively as he turned on his heels. "I'm not exactly easy to hide. Gotta keep my appearance with the people good. Keeping their trust is what's gonna make this whole thing work, right? Plus, we wouldn't want the commission to get suspicious now would we?" he gestured to himself then the logo on his shirt.
"Why do you wear that crap outside of work anyway?" Dabi questioned.
"Easier to say I was out on an extra patrol, then explain to the commission where I was headed." Hawks' friendly tone didn't faulter once. Who knew gaining someone's trust could takw this damn long. "so, what do you have for me today?"
Dabi took a deep breathe in and rolled his eyes to the side. He began to walk closer to Hawks as he spoke; "It's your lucky day, Bird Brain."
There was a pause. It was only a few seconds, but it felt painfully long to the blonde.
"And why is that?" Hawks finally spoke. Dabi stopped only few feet away from Hawks before leaning his head in and smirking. There was something slightly sinister in his half-burnt smile. Hawks acted unfazed as he himself mimicked the other's action and smirked. The blonde raised his eyebrows and widened his eyes in feign excitement. "Well..." Hawks drawled.
Dabi leaned his head all the way back and let a laugh slip from his lips and threw his hands into his black denim pockets. It wasn't loud nor did it feel joyous. "Boss finally wants to meet you. Apparently he's ready to let this little birdy fly a little. You'll be meeting the team, so follow me." Dabi's expression fell to a bored one once again as he pivoted towards the door and began walking away with out another word. Today is a bigger day than you expected then, huh?
