Ryan's face turned pale as he could only stare at the boy curled up in front of him on the bathroom floor. He didn't know what to do, his mind felt jumbled, overflowing with chaos. His thoughts tripped over themselves in frantic confusion as he tried to make sence of the situation at hand.

Ryan splashed water on his face, attempting to calm his nerves. Matt clutched his chest, curling up even farther. A pained expression rested upon his delicate features. His shapely eyebrows drew together as he whimpered in pain, squeezing his eyes shut.

Ryan knelt, picking up Matt once again. He slipped on his favorite black slides as he rushed out the door, Matt still lying limp in his arms. Ryan fumbled with his car keys, opening the door of his black SUV, carefully setting Matt in the leather passenger seat. Ryan lifted the slender boy's chin to look into his cloudy, half-lidded blue eyes, that once again threatened rain. He could clearly see that Matt was not okay.

Ryan got in the driver's seat, glancing over at Matt. The thin boy shivered, curling back into a ball. Ryan took off his hoodie, draping it over his sick friend, gently wiping the remaining tears from Matt's weary eyes.

He turned the silver key in the ignition, the engine softly purring as it idled in park for a few seconds before Ryan pulled out of their driveway. He sped down the empty road, with only megre street lamps to guide his path.

As he drove, he could hear muffled whimpering coming from the sleeping lump in the passenger seat. Ryan's dark brows drew together in concern as he quickly looked at the unconscious boy next to him, who seemed to be in quite a bit of pain and turmoil.

Ryan took one hand carefully off the steering wheel, resting it in the small of Matt's back in an attempt to calm the turbulent storm that raged inside him. He wished he could take away Matt's pain, it hurt him to see Matt in this way. He felt Matt grab his hand, holding it tightly to his rapidly beating heart. Ryan could feel his fear... his anguish. He knew Matt was scared, He was scared.

He glanced at the clock, realizing he had no idea what time it was. The red numbers glowed in the darkness: 2:37.

Ryan drove into the hospital parking lot, he opened the passenger door and scooped up the pale boy. Ryan felt Matt's forehead, he was burning up. His soft chestnut hair clung to his face as sweat dripped down his delicate cheekbones. Ryan held the unconscious Matt tightly to his chest as he ran into the hospital, gasping for breath.

"Please!"

Ryan's husky voice rang out through the empty halls.

"Somebody help!"

He was practically in tears now... he had never seen Matt look SO helpless...

so weak...

More of the hot ruby liquid dripped from Matt's lips, staining Ryan's shirt as he scoured the halls in search of
A doctor...
A nurse...
Someone to help his friend.

Ryan gently laid Matt on a vacant hospital bed. He kneeled next to his motionless form, moving his strong hand to Matt's cheek, wiping away the lingering blood.

A forlorn sigh escaped Ryan's lips, as he looked over Matt's dainty features. He leaned in, and in a husky whisper he spoke...

"I will protect you Matt Watson."

With those words still lingering on his tongue, he rose from his knees to resume the hunt for someone... anyone, to help Matt.
