Chapter 2

There was nothing else that I could do except stare into the horrible sight of the accursed truck which was completely destroyed upon its explosion. It hasn't sunk into my mind yet, that Isla was gone forever, she died, and I lived, that's all there is to it. Of all times, why must it happen now? Now that I finally realized what she meant to me, this is all my fault. If only-...
All of a sudden, the piece of metal I was hanging on dented, it brought me even lower to the scorching flames. Rusty and frangible, it was only a matter of time before the rails completely break apart from the bridge. Holding on to dear life, I tried to climb up. I have to survive for Isla, I'll make sure everyone remembers her forever. Unfortunately, it didn't do me any good, my arms were starting to feel like wobbly jelly, my heart feels like it could burst, and my hands are telling me to let go. What should I do right now, the body wants to give up, still my mind is telling me to wait patiently. I can't take this any longer.
"Oh? Nyahahaha. You seem to be having a hard time now, huh?" a girl who looked like a cosplayer stared at me as if I was the lowest being on Earth. She licked the blue popsicle and swayed her legs back and forth like a brat.
"If you're here to make a fool out of me, do it for as long as you'd like after you help me out"
"Heh?!" she cackled. "Hey, moron. Are you finally convinced that humans only exist to die and eventually return to the Earth?" a bone-chilling expression appeared on her baby face.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA" Crabs, I couldn't hold in my laughter. I have a tendency to laugh at serious times and it had to be this moment.
Her face glew bright red and a humiliated young girl was all I could see then, "I see you have no intention of taking me seriously, then" she stood up and dusted off her skirt.
"Wait, what kind of answer do you expect of someone like me." I gritted my teeth as pain rushed through my body. I don't know how long I can hold out.
"Nyahahaha, so now you're interested." the girl had a smug look, "Aren't you the one who said that humans give birth and die every single day?"
"H-how do you know that?" I began slipping downwards. After asking her, I felt something cold and sticky on my face and hair. She dropped her popsicle on my face, and when all the muck cleared up, she had a terrifying look.
"I don't entertain questions such as that, Isaiah" she smiled menacingly. "Oh well, I guess I'll just have to ask you another time then. However, you mustn't forget this meeting." she left but she thought of an idea and came back. "Oh, I know. This necklace belongs to an old lady with golden teeth. Give it back to her when you meet each other." she dropped the necklace and it landed perfectly on my neck. "Now then, I really must be going. Until we meet again, Nyahahaha."
With the strength of a mighty lion, she thrust herself into the air. After that, the rails broke apart. It made me lose my grip and I began falling into the flames. However, I was saved by a paramedic that was quick on his feet. He was wearing an EMS uniform and round-eyed glasses. A black comma hairstyle and pale skin.
"Sir, don't let go of my hand. Let's both do our best, okay?" someone must have heard the explosion and immediately contacted the authorities. Clinging tightly onto his hand, he lifted me back up with ease. "Are you injured anywhere, sir?." he asked calmly and wrapped me with a space blanket.
I showed him my wounded hands and he immediately knew what to do. He assisted me and took me to the ambulance to take care of my wounds. For some reason, I felt like I could depend on him like a close friend. Inside the ambulance, we sat on the bench seat without saying a word to each other. He seems like a loner yet has a kind spirit within.
