Distant Memories of The Past (Part 1)

"Year 2995"

"Honestly, this has been happening more and more lately. After today, there comes another—well knowing you, you probably have a different take on this matter."

A familiar presence, the heavy yet warm feeling on my back as I was hunched over to my desk. Even if I couldn't see who it was, the soft and breathy voice painted a vivid image of the person who was always there for me. She's the only person who would care if I went missing.

"Don't you have someplace else to be, Isla?"

"Nowadays, the only place that I want to go to is somewhere in which you're around." I listened to her with my eyes closed, feeling her cheeks bounce around as she spoke.

"I want to be left alone, give me some space—okay?". At that moment, her sharp teeth dug through my skin as if they were daggers. It felt like my eyes could pop out.

I forcefully rose off of my seat as Isla fell to the ground laughing, sneering at her, I realized that I shouldn't be mad at her for trying to cheer me up. Letting out a big sigh, I sat down. It was sunset, and I fell asleep through another class today. Only the both us were here. Alone with a person who pries excessively into my life, this was the worst case scenario.

When she calmed down, she looked at me from below with a smile on her face. "Lighten up, Isaiah. The elders always say that no man is an island, much less a tenth grader like you."

"Well, what do you know?, you're just like me except you're annoying. As if I wanna be cooped up with you." I scoffed at her.

Then, she looked down as if she was hesitant to say something. "I know what you did yesterday... and I'm concerned for y-."

"Not another word out of you, I was just doing what I thought was right and you have nothing to do with it. I think you should keep minding your own business and leave me alone, besides what could you do to help me?".

"I can think of another way for you to-.." Again, I interrupted her sentence.

"Would you stop it?, the problem is big enough as it already is, I don't want you interfering with my life." I raised my voice.

"Nothing will happen if-.." I attempted to cut her off again but this time she raised her voice as well. "NO!, Nothing will happen if you don't ask for help, even if you deny it, you need help. You need us."

"I don't need you or anyone else!" she then stood up and grabbed me by the collar of my polo.

Eventually, we found ourselves screaming at each other, and just when I thought that we were the only ones left at school, a teacher barged in the room. Miss Isabelle, our homeroom teacher and Isla's mother.

"Isaiah Meraki, Isla Eigengrau!!. Stop this at once, you're disturbing the other teachers next to this room." her arms were folded as she stood by the door.

"But Mom!"

"No buts, young lady. We're going home right this second."

Isla groaned, she released her grip on me and headed towards her mom. Miss Isabelle looked at me with disappointment in her eyes. I hate that look on people's faces.

"I expected better from you, Isla—no I shouldn't even be expecting anything out of you. And as for you, Mr. Meraki, you better not be sleeping in class again or else I'll have to contact your parents." she slammed the door shut and left.
