Part 9 : Sammy

Anne enters the room, a bag from the pharmacy in her right hand. 'I need to talk to you... it's very important'

'Ok, fine then.' Jessie sighs. She really doesn't want an awkward talk with her mother.

'Look, I know you hate me, but I couldn't do anything about Frederick, things were already done when I married him. He had already adopted you and told me that he found you in the streets. I only found out about the thruth when Nikky was born.'. After all that explaining, Anne shuts up and the silence is so damn loud. Jessie wishes to be anywhere but in that room. Jessie can't even believe what she's about to say, but she let's the words out of her mouth before she'll regret it. 'I never really hated you...I just didn't appreciate the way you used to treat me.'

'I'm sorry...', Anne says.

Wow. Does she really think that sorry will change anything ? It won't change the fact that she doesn't have parents, and the only people she actually called parents were liars...but Jessie always wanted to change her relationship with Anne, even if she's her adoptive mother...

'So, you ignored me because I wasn't your biological daughter?' Jessie asks, afraid that she already knows the answer.

'Yes, I did. I was really stupid, but I was really mad at your fa-, I mean at Frederick for adopting you before even marrying me.', Anne corrects herself.

'Is there something else you know about my biological family?' Jessie asks.

'Well, I think your grandfather is still alive, and he was looking for you, but Frederick told me not to tell you about that...'

'So it was him...', Jessie mumbles to herself.

'Huh what ?', Anne asks, curious.

'Uh, nothing, it's nothing.', Jessie tells her. So that old man that bothered her that day really is her grandpa...

'Here's your medicine. You'll have to take this sirup once a day and take this medicament after each meal.', Anne explains and leaves the room.

Jessie can't wait to get better. When she is finally healthy enough to leave the house, she'll go to the rebellions basement...

...a few days later :

It's the weekend, and Jessie is finally healthy again. She asks her mother if she can go out with her friends and gets out of the house.

'So, where is this basement ?', Jessie mumbles to herself.

She looks on the paper with the written adress and looks around her. Apparently, the basement is on the abandoned side of the town. What an interesting place. The basement is hidden under an old pizzeria called il delizioso. It means the delicious in italian.

She goes to the abandoned part of the town, looking for the number of the building, number 13. Wow, this adress is promising, Jessie thinks as she walks and suddenly halts. She's finally found it. Number 13. An old pizerria. The building was between two old abandoned houses. The building was supposed to be red, but it was nearly black with all the dirt on the walls. Disgusting.

As Jessie approaches the door, she feels herself get nervous. Why was she so nervous ? Oh, maybe because she might meet her grandpa, the old man that she treated in a rude way?

She knocks at the door before she regrets it and immediately a girl opens the door. Short red hair, blue eyes, and taller than Jessie? It's the same girl that gave her the pizza box with the adress of the basement!

'Oh, hi again. My name is Sammy! What's your name?' The girl named Sammy is now grinning at Jessie.

'Uh, call me Jessie...', Jessie says. Should she just have told the girl about her real name ? Although, she still isn't used to being called Rose, so...

'Come in !' Sammy gets inside the pizeria, Jessie following behind her.

'This is just a way to hide our basement, as you proably know. Above the pizzeria there are some rooms for those of the rebellion who have nowhere to live. The rebellion has some functions, which one do you wanna enter?' Sammy looks expectdantely at Jessie, waiting for her answer.

Functions? What the heck is Sammy talking about ?, Jessie thinks to herself.

'Oh, so you don't know what functions we have?', Sammy realizes by Jessies confused face. 'Here, read this!' Sammy hands a paper to Jessie.

In a flyer, there's some text written :

Welcome to the rebellion. In a rebellion there are several functions. For example, you can help us get some useful information if you're good at hacking or perhaps you can design the flyers we distribute in public buildings.

And if you have a power, there are people who help you master it if you help us fight or defend ourselves against the government.

If you wanna live in this building, then you'll have to give some money so we can buy food for you and pay the bills.

'Uh, I need help with my...power. Please don't tell anyone...', Jessie looks at Sammy, who is now squealing out of joy.

'Oh my gosh! You have a power! That's so rare and amazing! Please tell me what you can do ?' Sammy gives Jessie the puppy eyes, those eyes no one, and I mean no one, can resist.

'I can grow plants from anywhere if I want to.', Jessie explains.

'Oh, let me take you to Mr LaFlora! He'll be able to help you !'

Before Jessie can even do something, she's already being dragged by Sammy to the hall.

The hall is full of tables and comfortable looking seats. The walls are white and decorated with pictures of famous places from their first planet. The so called Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and much more. That's actually the only bit of information Jessie knows about their old planet, earth. The government is good at hiding informations when they need it...

There's also a big oven to make pizzas and there are some people sitting and eating pizza. Probably members of the rebellion.

'Hi! Want some pizza, you kiddos?', an older, black woman asks, sitting on a comfortable armchair. She has short curly white hair and is wearing a beautiful, long red skirt and a white t-shirt. The woman has the same height as Jessie.

'Not now Olivia, I have to take Jessie to Mr LaFlora, unless she's hungry ?', Sammy says, smiling gently at the woman.

'Thanks for the offer, but I'm not hungry, maybe later.', Jessie refuses.

'Oh, but I am soon meeting with Mr LaFlora, you can always wait here, dear.', the woman called Olivia says.

'Oh, alright then...' Jessie sighs and sits besides Sammy. Suddenly a surprised voice says :

'Rose ? Is that really you ? I can't believe it! You're here!'
