Part 11 : Apologies...
Jessie was now in an old, wooden hut...probably another one of those memories coming back...
Jessie sees her younger self, sitting on a sofa that was beside a table with wooden chairs. She recognizes her biological father, Jake, standing in front of younger Jessie.
'Rose, if you ever have to run away because of our situation, don't trust anyone from the government.', Jack says.
'Why, papa ?', Rose asks.
'These people are capable of doing horrible things that no one can imagine, especially if they ever find out that you have a power. I have to warn you, there are people from the government hiding everywhere. Even in a place full of nice people.'
Jessie frowns in confusion. What does Jack mean by that ? Is he talking about traitors ? But who and where are these traitors ? Are these traitors people from the government who somehow joined the rebellion ?
'Ok, papa. I'll be careful.', Rose tells her father.
Then suddenly Jessie wakes up to her sisters laughter. She doesn't even have time to think about that dream. Jessie feels something weird on her face.
'What did YOU do ?' Jessie glares at Nikky. 'Nothing...', Nikky says and tries not to laugh, obviously failing to do so.
Jessie runs to the mirror in her room and looks at her face. She had chantilly all over her face ! As Jessie wipes out the chantilly from her face, she notices that Nikky is hiding something behind her back.
'Sorry I couldn't resist...you were snoring like a pig !', Nikky laughs.
'What do you have behind your back ?', Jessie asks, her voice dangerously calm.
'Nothing...', Nikky says and starts running towards the stairs.
Jessie suddenly sees her favorite book in Nikkys right hand.
'OI ! GIMME MY BOOK BACK, ASSHOLE !', Jessie shouts and starts running after Nikky.
She reaches Nikky in time and grabs her book back. 'You idiot...', Jessie murmurs as she looks through her book to see if it took any damage from Nikkys ungraceful hands.
After putting the book in its place, Jessie goes downstairs with Nikky where Anne had just finished cooking. It was now 12am, and Frederick was still working.
As Anne, Nikky and Jessie sit on the kitchen table to eat, there's an awkward silence. There had never been such a loud silence...
Jessie looks at Nikky, who is eating her spaghetti bolognese like a pig, the tomato sauce all over her face.
After eating, Nikky and Jessie help their mother a little bit with cleaning and then watch something on Webflix. The whole weekend goes on like this. Their mother, Anne, going to her room, Nikky and Jessie watching movies on the sofa and Frederick only coming home from work at midnight.
The days pass by and it's finally Monday, the day where Jessie will visit the rebellions basement ! But she has to go to school first...great...
In highschool, everything's still the same. The teachers are still wearing those stress relievers.
Hous slowly pass by, as if someone made the clock go slower. It feels like an eternity to Jessie.
When Jessie finally gets out of the school building she hears someone laugh and then something else, as if someone had just been slapped in the face.
'That's what you get for being a traitor, you rat !', a voice exclaims.
'Please...just leave me alone...', another voice says. Jessie recognizes that voice. It's Hannah ! Jessie follows the sound and goes to the backyard of the school. There she sees Hannah laying against the wall of the building and the three girls that she used to call friends smiling at her in an evil way.
'All this time, we were treated like inferior people, and now you're going to pay for this !', a girl with short brown hair and blue eyes says, smiling with her horse teeth.
Jessie doesn't feel like leaving Hannah there, though Hannah made her suffer a lot in her first two years of highschool. Jessie gets her phone out of her pocket, and starts dialing the police number.
'Hey, I'm going to call the police if you don't get outta here!', Jessie shouts and shows them her phone with the number of the police written on it. The three girls who were bullying Hannah just stare at her, not even reacting. Jessie is about to press the call button when suddenly the girls yell out in fear : 'RUN! It's the witch!' The girls dissapear before Jessie can stop them.
What did they just call her? Witch? Are they referring to the day she accidentaly made plants grow to stop them and Hannah from bullying her? She didn't even know that she had a power...
'Are you alright?', Jessie asks Hannah as she helps her get up.
'I'm fine...', Hannah says, looking down to her feet. Hannahs face is red from being slapped so hard in the face and she has a big coffe stain on her clothes, like someone purposely spilled it over her. Hannahs usually braided hair is now full of leaves. She's trembling and seems like she's about to cry.
'You helped me, even after what I did to you... I'm sorry, I know that apologising now won't change anything...', Hannah says.
'I only helped you because I didn't want you to experience the same as I did...', Jessie answers and turns away to go the bus stop. She's got no time to lose. Jessie wants to get to the rebellions basement as fast as she can...
...to be continued...
