"Quick send her off to safety."
Those were the last words my mother said to me before she was killed.

I opened my eyes to sun rays glistening through a window.
"Ouch. Where am I?" I looked around to see where I was. I was in a small room that looked like part of a dojo.

"Oh you're awake!" An unfamiliar male voice said. I looked to see who it was. It was an old man with long black hair, closed eyes, and round glasses. Next to him was a small boy in a uniform with green hair. "Are you ok?" The man asked.

"Um yes... I think so. Where am I?" I was a little bit nervous being in this unfamiliar place.

"Ah where are my manners. I am the Sensei here at the dojo. This is my pupil, his name is Zoro." The little moss haired boy came out from behind the man. "He found you last night asleep against a tree. He carried you back here and cleaned all your wounds."

"Th-Thanks." Was all I managed to stammer out. I was a nervous wreck. All the thoughts from last night came flooding back. The pain, the crying, the loneliness. 'Don't think about that Kimiko. You're in a new place now. Look happy and innocent. Maybe they'll take care of you.' I thought as I pushed the memories of last night into a deep dark place. Hopefully those will never resurface.

"Do you need anything?" Sensei asked. "No. Well actually..."

"What is it... Oh I don't know your name! Would you mind telling us?"
"My name is Kimiko."
"Ok Kimiko. What is it you need?"
"I just want to know what kind of dojo this is."
"It's a sword dojo. We train here with practice swords and battle. One day, when we graduate, Sensei gives us a katana and we have our own journeys." Zoro said.
The man ruffled Zoro's hair and smiled. "That's right. Zoro wants to become the best swordsman. What's your dream Kimiko?"

My dream? Do I have a dream? No one has ever let me dream.
"I don't have one." I responded with a monotone voice and blank stare.
"Well why don't you train here and make one." Sensei said.

I looked at the old man. He turned around and grabbed a practice sword.
"Zoro, why don't you show her the ways of the sword."
The little boy took the sword and looked at his Sensi.
"I'm gonna need two more."
"Oh that's right! I forgot you train with three." The man said a bit flustered since he had forgot Zoro trains with three swords.
*huff* The green haired boy took a deep breath in and out. He placed one sword in his mouth and the other two in each of his hands. As he breathed out again his eyes flared open and he began to move swiftly. I had never seen such beauty when handling a weapon. He swung the swords and they came crashing down on practice bamboo pillars. The bamboo snapped in half. He did this repeatedly, using a different move every time.

When he was done he had sweat dripping of his body. He took the sword out of his mouth and looked at me. My eyes looked at him in awe and amazement. Then I spoke up.

"Wow. You're amazing!" I said with enthusiasm.
"Really you think so!?" Zoro asked back with a slight sparkle in his eyes.
"Mhmm!" I nodded vigorously.
Then Zoro went back to his more stubborn expression.
"Well I mean you could train here at the dojo with us..."
"I CAN!" I tried to jump up and hug Zoro but my leg gave out when I stood up. I braced myself for the impact of the floor. Instead the Sensei caught me and placed me back down.
"You can train here but not until you are all rested up. Zoro will watch over you for the next few days. When you can walk he'll show you around the place and to the other students." He finished. He looked at Zoro who had already made himself comfortable on the floor. Sensei opened the door to walk out of the room. He was about to close the door but then he said something.
"Kimiko, before you leave this place you must have a dream. Good night." And with that he closed the door.
"Good night Kimiko." Zoro said and dozed off to sleep.

'What did I get myself into?' I sighed and went to sleep.
