I went to the literature class I applied for twice a week, the first class of the week was pretty boring but I still enjoyed watching Hyun-joo or Emma whatever I should call her.
After attending the second class of the week I went and said
"It was a really good class today"
"Really, you think so, you really seemed bored in the last one"
"Did I? You noticed! You notice me... interesting"
"Yeah I know, you seemed bored"
"So do you wanna hang out this weekend?"
"I don't have any plans yet but let's see"
"I'll call you, let me know"
"Cool, bye" she walked out of the door.
Yoon Jae Ho called me. He sounded sleepy, it was around 5 PM here and supposably 4 am morning in Korea
"Hello," he said
"Don't you need sleep at all, you workaholic man" I questioned
"Look who is talking" he yawned
"I had an important message to give you"
"Message, what message"
"Who is it honey, just go to sleep" I heard a voice coming from the back
"Don't tell me, that's Easter Lee. You're with her this early"
"That's none of your business"
"Does your son knows?"
"That's none of your business either" "
"It seems like you don't want to work for me anymore?"
"I want to that's why I called you"
"Why did you call me"
"There is a meeting this weekend"
"What time exactly"
"Saturday, around 9:00 am Korea" oh my god I have a date with Hyun-joo I can't miss that
"Postpone it or prepone it"
"What"
"You heard what I said, I said do it before or after, I am not free that time, I have other work I have to study for my class"
"Which class, are you taking classes for something?"
"As you said, It's none of your business"
"But this meeting is my business"
"Just postpone it please"
"But sir, it's your father's orders, I can't deny then"
"Why don't you pretend to be sick, that way work will be delayed and the meeting won't happen on Saturday"
"What are you saying?"
"Please help me I can't attend this meeting I have other plans, It's an order from Kim Won The President of Jeguk Group, to a Vice President, or just a request to a friend"
"Are you calling me your friend"
"I'll do anything whatever works right now"
"Okay, I'll try to delay it"
"Look I am warning you, if you arrange this meeting your have to do without me, I am not attending it"
"But sir"
"I don't wanna hear you're if and but's, I am hanging up now" I cut the call.
I felt like a 16-year-old boy doing this, I felt so immature. But if I go and do this meeting and ignore Hyun-joo it will be my regular habit. I just don't want to start doing that again. She is my priority now. It's not an excuse but a decision now.
It was Saturday we had a plan to meet at 7, I was all ready. I called Hyun-joo she didn't pick up my call, I was about to meet her, this was strange. I got ready and was waiting outside her apartment in my car, I called her multiple times there was no reply. "Something came up, I can't meet you today" I got her text message,
I called her again to make sure she is okay, she picked up
"Hello, I can't see you today" her voice was low like she was about to cry
"Are you all right?"
"Yeah I am okay" she hangs up.
Something didn't seem right, I thought of calling her back but I know she wouldn't pick up. Instead, I went to a famous Korean restaurant and ordered her favorite items; I had a plan to take them to her flat. I remember she told me she lived on 24 floor 2nd flat.
I reached there, I wasn't sure about any of this but I took a risk and went inside the building, as I entered the elevator, I was very nervous what if she tells me to leave right on the door, what if she is with another guy. I went to her floor and rang the bell.
A beautiful tall blond lady opened the door with a smile,
"Can I help you?"
"Is Emma home"
"Yeah, come in please are you Emma's friend"
"You can say that for now"
"You brought food, I was starving" blond took the food package from my hand. I saw the house was all messed up and stuff was packed in boxes,
"Are you guys moving out"
"Just me, I am moving to a different city for my job, my boyfriend lives there so I am moving in with him there"
"Oh, congratulations"
"Thanks" her reply came with a low voice.
"That's Emma's room" she guided me as I took a step
"Hey, she might be a bit upset" she added. I opened the door of her room.
She was sitting in corner of the bed looking outside the window
"Emma" she wiped off her tears and turned around
"How are you here," she asked in curiosity
"I came to check up on you, are you okay?" she didn't reply, I went and sat beside her.
"She is leaving it feels like my world is falling apart, she is family, I don't know how I would manage without her"
"I understand". The door opened
"Emma, would you miss our last meal together as a roommate in this house"
"You idiot, do we really have food to eat" Emma replied
"I brought some," I said
"Emma, this handsome man brought Korean food for you"
"Really," she asked, Emma, seems like a woman to adore food just like Hyun-joo
"Let's go".
We all sat at the dining table and started eating
"I think I didn't introduce myself, I am Caroline"
"I am Tae-ho" "Where did you guys meet, Emma?"
"He is my student" Emma replied
"Isn't he a little old to be your student" Caroline questioned
"You know this guy asked me out on a date, first time he attended my class"
"Classic, Men should do that, this food is so delicious. Where did you get it from"
"From the Korean restaurant, around the corner" I replied to Caroline
"Are you from Korea?"
"Yeah, I am"
"Where are you staying"
"At the hotel but I need to find a place soon"
"Really, you should move in with Emma Instead!" was Caroline's reply.
