The Arranged Marriage (Niall Horan Fan Fiction)

Chapter 12

I glared at Jennifer as she talked to Niall. She was laughing at something he said.

That girl disgusts me.

I turned away, suddenly not hungry. I could put on a show, act like she's no big deal. I could pretend to forget the fact that Niall was lied to, just to make everyone else happy... But then I would be lying to myself.

Besides, how do we know Jennifer wasn't in on her mothers lie? We have no proof. All we have to go on is that girl's word, and I don't trust her at all.

Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder. 

"Stop glaring at them, Harry." Liam said quietly. 

"I can't help it, Liam. That girl is a cheat and a fraud. How can you accept her so quickly? I don't understand. She said she was sick and now she isn't." 

"She didn't actually say she was sick, that was her mother." Liam replied. He sighed.

"Look, Haz, I know you care about Niall but just let him be. He can do what he wants with his life. You can't control him." 

I sighed. "I know, but I just really don't trust that girl." Jennifer laughed as Niall fed her a French Fry. I couldn't look at those two. "I don't trust her at all."

"I need to know something about you." I said as I fed Jennifer another fry. "You know about me but I know nothing about you." She chewed her fry slowly.

"I guess." She replied. I rubbed my hands together. 

"Great!" I smiled. "Don't be afraid to let loose. Tell me whatever you want."

"Okay..." She paused. 

"I like the colour orange. I like oranges as well. You know, the fruits. I've wanted to be a fashion designer since I was, like, five. I am an only child. I lived with my mother and father until I was, like, sixteen? Only one or two years ago. We were a warm, happy family and everything, until the accident. It was a freak car accident." She took a wavering breath. "I was learning to drive and my dad was in the seat behind me, and there was this guy, I didn't know what to do. My father took the wheel and swerved to avoid the car that was speeding towards us, we crashed into a tree. Dad had been protecting me. If he wasn't in front of me I might have been the one to die." She squished the fry she was holding.

"The worst thing was, once he was gone my mother completely changed. She wasn't warm or friendly like she used to be. She lied and manipulated others all the time. She used my father's death as a way to gain charity. She got rich pretty quickly. She had a crappy job at the time but after they heard what had happened they gave her this giant raise... It's horrible knowing how much money my mum took from them. I hated her for that.

"Anyway, she bought me a house and I wanted to move in as soon as possible. One day, I just decided to do it. I moved in. My mother was so surprised." She laughed coldly. "I hate her."

My jaw dropped. What the heck did I just listen to? It sounded like a load of lies, but in a way I could see Jennifer's mother doing that. I mean, look what she did to Jennifer and I?

"Why did she want you to have an arranged marriage, anyway?" I asked to change the subject.

"Oh, well. It's all to do with Lottie's Luck. She was my great great great great great aunt? Or was there an extra great? I don't know, but you get the picture. Every women in the family had an arranged marriage and fell in love with the person they were supposed to marry. All turned out great. So, yeah. That's why my mother wanted me to have an arranged marriage." She laughed.

"So, you didn't even get a chance to date other people?" I asked. Even I would agree that that's tough.

"Um... My mum actually did give me a chance. I dated heaps of boys. Heaps. But none of them were to my liking. Mum finally had enough the other day. She said that it was time she arranged a marriage for me." Jennifer rolled her eyes.

"But on the bright side, I am with Niall Horan." I laughed as I grabbed her hand.

"You got lucky." I smiled.

"I was going to get lucky anyway, Lottie's Luck, remember? But there must be some little leprachauns working hard somewhere in the world, because I think I'm the luckiest girl of all."
