Joong

"I'm so sorry Joong but I won't be able to meet you tonight." I sighed hearing that. Not so surprised though since I knew this would happen eventually.

"I had told you already that you won't be able to make it, Earth." I replied a bit frustrated.

"I'm really really really sorry bro. Believe me I wanted to go so badly but my boss called me last moment because of some emergency in the office and I can't say no." He said sadly.

"Uhh okay don't be sad we will try next time." I consoled him. Although there were numerous of times when I really wanted to disown him as my bestfriend for his irresponsibility or stupidity but afterall he was the only one I had apart from my parents now.

"I promise you Joong next week I'll definitely meet you and then hangout together." He pleaded through the phone.

"I don't know but I don't think I will be free next week. But I will try to slip some of my works aside to hangout with you." I answered honestly.

"Alright I need to go now update me your schedule next week. Don't forget to have your meals and take proper rest. Hmm?" He instructed to me like talking to a child.

"I'm not a child you know? But anyway I will update you." I laughed lightly replying to him.

"Okay okay bye bye and love you." He bid the final goodbye as usual dropping a cliche 'love you' but I didn't mind.

I lied to Earth. I had already taken the whole next week as a leave. Planning to spend my time with my bestfriend as well as cousin since we couldn't see each other quite often nowadays.

So alone it was. Well not having anyone with me was never a problem after Mia died 4 years ago. On the contrary I liked alone now, calm and peaceful. I've gotten used to silence. I just switched my phone off because there was no one who could call me other than Earth anyway.

I was sitting comfortably in the last train waiting for its departure which would be in a few seconds. The seat opposite to me as expected empty because it was quite late to have a bunch of passengers at this hour. The daily passengers like me would be the only one occupying the train.

The guard blew the second whistle and the train jerked to life under us.
Suddenly a young boy looking around the age of me or even younger rushed through the door slumping on the seat opposite to me, panting. The wheels of the train screeched into a slow movement catching up its speed.
I just stared at the guy, wearing a thin blue shirt with trousers, letting him first calm his breathing down.

"Hello. I'm sorry for startling you like that. Actually I thought I would miss the train." He seemed to be relaxed a bit now as he spoke in a shrill yet heavy voice. I just nodded watching him getting busy with his phone, trying to call someone. He looked panicked as I could see from his twitching eyebrows and pressed lips.

"Are you a regular passenger here?" He asked next though not looking at me. If there wasn't anyone except me in the compartment I would have been really confused as to whom he was asking the question. "Yes." I replied shortly and he gave me a big smile almost blinding me with the brightness.

He again got busy with his phone while I got busy stealing glances at him. I coudn't deny the fact that he was attractive but I found something else, something weird in the way he would suddenly stir up if there was a noise nearby or look around every now and then.
He might be affraid of ghosts I concluded sliding the topic but couldn't still stop myself from glancing at him.

"Is there any problem?" The question tumbled out of my lips on its own as if they had their own minds now.

"Oh no nothing serious." He stared at me doubtfully with the smile still intact on his plump pink lips.
I just nodded closing my eyes to take a short nap and when I opened them again we were surprisingly in the destination. He dragged his luggage bag which seemed pretty big and also heavy for the way he would more than often lose his balance. I just followed him out after which I separated my way walking towards the bus stop, not before stopping at a stall to grab a cup of coffee because my eyes were threatening to drop any second burning its inside.

And when I finally reached the bus stop I found the same guy again but in a very frantic state. I was in dilema whether to approach him and the reason for his distress or just let it pass waiting for the bus.

And after a lot of contemplating I approached him.

"Excuse me. Is everything alright?" I asked formally and his eyes darted to me looking at me with hope and a certain relief.

"I think I've left my passport in the train." He was almost shaking, a fine sheet of sweat covering his forehead showing how stressed he was.

And in that fraction of a second I wasn't sure what I was doing until I found myself running back to the station with the guy huffing behind me, or better to say pulled by me. The coffee long forgotten along with the bus, which was standing there.
