Only Red

Chapter Four

I'm sitting on my bed in a new tight-fit red tank top playing with my now shoulder-length hair as I hum to Worst Day of my Life by Alec Benjamin.

Suddenly I hear a knock on my door.

"Hey Kiri, we didn't see you at school today so we just came to check in and give you the work we did today!" Denki's energetic voice shouts through my door.

I internally panic for a moment.

Should I see them? Recovery Girl said that the Karu-Eru Hero Agency would probably find the villain soon. But she also said I should just return to normal classes until they do...

I realized just then how long I had been sitting there in silence contemplating my options and ignoring my friends.

My door creaked open and I immediately jolted up to slam it shut.

"Bro? You okay?..." Denki called, sounding slightly worried.

I was about to respond before remembering my voice had changed with me. It now sounded high pitched and soft, I don't think I would be able to convince them it was just because of a cold.

I just quickly grabbed a piece of paper from a nearby shelf as I leaned forward keeping one leg up against the door. I scribbled on it messily and slid it under the door.

Please leave the work in front of my door I'll see you tomorrow and explain!

I felt Denki stop pushing on the door, as I heard the sheet of paper crinkle.

"Uhh, okay?" Denki said before I heard more shuffling papers and retreating footsteps. I let out my breath and cracked the door open checking that no one remained in the hallway.

I snatched the homework from the ground and slipped back inside my dorm.

I sank to the floor and clutched the homework to my chest as I burst out sobbing.

Would they ever like me after this?

I felt so weak like this...

How will Bakugo react?

Why would I even ask I'm sure he'll hate me too...

I curled up in a ball as the music that I had been playing on my headphones switched to the next song on the playlist I had picked out.

I felt more tears fall as Sorry by Halsey started to play.

The papers folded under my clenched hands as I cried with the song on repeat until I fell asleep.
