Steve starts to catch feelings for his friends and he doesn't know what to do, so he relies on the one person he knows he can, Hafu.

Disclaimer: This is all functional.
I'm doing something new. A highschool Au! How fun! Small background,  Hafu is the group mom of course. Steve is at Hafu's house a lot due to some stuff happening at home.

"I don't know what to do Hafu." Steve whined as he flopped down on her bed face down.

'Well, why not start from the beginning?" Hafu suggested, sitting beside the distressed man. She watched as Steve laid there for a moment before he looked up at her.

He felt like somebody was stepping on his heart. The beginning. That was a while ago. When did he even notice he had feelings for him? He didn't even know that. All he knew was that he was falling head over heels for his friend. He sighed a little. "Where do I begin?"

It was probably that time when Steve showed up to the group crying, his parents were at it again and he got caught in the crossfire. He didn't explain what it was. Hafu knew, she knew everything. She knew about how his parents fought, she knew about his old friends, she even knew about Steve being gay before he was out. Maybe it was the way he was pulled into his arms. The way he held him. His heart had skipped a beat.

Or maybe it was when they were all at the homecoming dance. He was sitting alone at the table, watching as all of his friends had fun. He had hurt his knee not so long beforehand. He felt like somebody tore his heart from his chest. It was like the world was passing him by. Then he stood in front of him, hand held out. "Come have this dance with me."

A simple gesture, he found himself reaching for his friend's hand. He was pulled up from his seat. He abandoned his crutches and he hobbled with him to the dance floor. As they stepped on a slow song started. He wrapped his arms around his neck and he held to hands rest on his hips. This was a dream. Most of his weight was on his good leg. They swayed to the song. His heart was pounding so hard he was afraid he could hear it.

Steve looked at Hafu to try and get her thoughts on it. She was smiling. His memories were just that good. He hated it. His best memories were when his friend was being nice. "Steve, have you talked to him?"

"No, why would I? I'm not going to tell him. It could ruin our friendship." He couldn't tell him. He couldn't tell anyone. Only Hafu.

"Maybe you should. Go up to him and tell him, 'I have feelings for you'. You have to try." She offered.

"Yeah, I don't think it will be that easy." He started. Hafu started to run her fingers through his hair. He couldn't help but relax under them. She always knew how to help.

"Get some sleep. We can talk about it more in the morning." She said, gently. As if he was some fragile glass. But who was he to argue with her? He moved so he had his head on her pillow. She laughed a little and laid down beside him. It made Steve feel safe, and that was all she wanted for him.

When he woke up Hafu was gone. Probably getting ready. He groaned and he got up. He made his way out of Hafu's room and into 5up's. The twins were used to him just living in their house. He saw 5up getting his bag packed and he smiled. "Goodmorning 5up." He said as he raided 5up's closet.

"Goodmorning Steve." 5up chirped.

Although Steve was taller than 5up, they wore the same sized shirts. Steve was all legs. He took a shirt and changed into it. His pants would be okay to wear again. He then flopped onto 5up's bed. "Wake me when it is time to leave."

“Get up. We are leaving as soon as Hafu is dressed.” 5up said, walking over to Steve shaking him. He would have thought that after doing this routine everyday for two years Steve would have it down by now. He didn’t but it was what it was. They left the house and walked to the school. Hafu gave Steve a look that said, ‘Tell him’ he hated the look. He didn’t want to. He couldn’t. He needed him in his life. The walk seemed to pass by too fast. He sighed a little, he decided that he would do it after school.

The end of the day came so fast. Steve walked with Dumbdog out from their last class. He was eating himself up. He had to tell him. They arrived at the group. He just about died as he looked at him. He hated that he was head over heels for him. He saw Hafu nodding her head at him. He had to do it. It was now or never. Hafu led the group away and Steve grabbed his arm stopping him. He looked at him with those beautiful eyes.

"I have something to tell you.” He said, his voice was shaking. He felt like he was going to explode.

“What is it, Steve?” God, his sweet voice was intoxicating. It made Steve weak at the knees.

“Well, Koji...I like you. I’m talking more than a friend.” He starts, “I want to hold your hand, make stupid little instagram posts, I want to kiss you, I want to be with you.”

“Steve,” Koji started, he pulled his hand away from Steve’s grasp. Steve could feel his heart break. “I’m sorry...I’m in love with Ellum. I’m with Ellum. I just don’t feel that way about you.”

“Right...I was just joking. Sorry, catch up with the others. I’ll be there in a moment.” He watched as Koji walked back to the others. He stood there, broken-hearted. Tears stung his eyes, he can’t cry. It was too late, the tears spilled over and he didn’t think twice before he ran away. Where was he going? He had no idea, he just had to get away. He found himself at a house. He sat on the front steps and cried. He was supid to think he had a chance. Of course he didn’t. Ellum was everything he wasn’t. He shouldn’t have listened to Hafu. That was a bad idea. A bad idea indeed.

He had been there a while when he heard somebody walking up to him. He heard a sigh and then the person sat beside him. He didn’t need to look up to know where he ran to. He ran to DK’s house. He felt his friend’s hand on his back. “Steve? Koji told us what happened...Hafu yelled at him for leading you on.”

“I was stupid to believe he would like me back.” He choked out. He just wanted to vanish. This was humiliating.

“It wasn’t stupid. I thought Koji liked you until today. That is why I never acted. I wasn’t going to steal his man.” DK rubbed his back. He looked over at the older male.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I love you dumbass.”

A moment of silence passed, Steve stared at DK in shock. As he thought back on it all. DK had always been there. DK took up dancing with him when Koji went to dance with...Ellum. DK had been the one to take Steve to the hospital when he bashed his knee. DK had been there for a lot. The more he thought about it, the more he realized he liked DK back.

No.

Loves.

He loves DK back.

“I love you too.”
