(Above image is just the yellow human soul from Undertale because I had no good ideas. May replace in the future if I think of something better)
(A note about the lore of this fic: Dreamtale canonically has had other characters than just Dream and Nightmare, and I decided to keep at least one of them in.
Just noting that because no, I do not have Dreamtale OCs
Also: Some story details are still different from Dreamtale canon. In the end, if you want to know about the canon of an AU, look at the creator's posts, not some girl's fanfic)
(Also: I have some other deity characters mentioned that kinda overlap with Reapertale characters, I think? In this fic the deities kinda... operate separately from the Reapertale gods, basically. I'm saying this because I haven't really looked into Reapertale much so I barely know anything about it and its characters and story. So, if any of the deities have the same "position" or whatever as a Reapertale character, just note that the deities are separate from that AU... at least in this fic. I have no clue what Harrish does with this stuff)
(I hope I didn't miss anything that contradicts something earlier in the story, I've tried looking over this but there's always the possibility that something slipped through the cracks)
Ink stepped into the infirmary, now that he finally had the time to check on Dream. He kept forgetting about doing that with all the other stuff going on.
Being the creator and protector of the multiverse was hard work, but he had to keep it up. After all, when it comes to people's lives, you can't just slack off.
Ink had always tried his best to keep people safe, though things were often complicated by his endless need to create. It hurt him greatly to watch his dear creations die by Error's hands. He tried whatever he could to protect them, even watching for what AUs Error seemed to avoid destroying and incorporating aspects of them into new AUs, in hope that Error would leave them alone, that it'd please him... this failed. Ink didn't know that Error didn't get a choice, that he'd have to destroy them eventually anyway.
Ink had no way of knowing.
Swap still seemed to be keeping Dream company, catching up with him and offering support when needed.
In short, just like how things were before Error had kidnapped him.
Ink gave a warm smile.
"Hey, Dream!" he said. "How are you feeling?"
"O-Oh, hi Ink. I-I'm fine..."
"...are you sure?"
"Yes..."
"Hey Ink!" Swap greeted with a wave. The two had already made amends for the most part when Swap had brought Dream in, while Dream was still unconscious.
"Swap, look... I'm sorry for what we did about Error. I know you're probably still upset about that, but right now... we need all the help we can get. The entire multiverse could be at stake."
"It's fine. I get it. You did what you had to do to protect the multiverse. I'll get over it eventually... probably... maybe."
Though things were obviously still a bit... rough, but Ink thought he should probably save dealing with that for when the multiverse wasn't at risk.
