Insure Our Love: A LiMu Emu x Doug story

chapter two: feathery love

Doug was so distraught, he called in sick the next day and stayed home watching feel-good movies that didn't make him feel good.

He cried and ate ice cream, watched an optimistic small-town girl fall in love in the big city and thought why can't I be like her? Why...why am I so sad and lonely?

He didn't even think of LiMu, and how he was left to handle their work all by himself today.

That bitch ass really called in sick today.... LiMu thought, petty. He was pissed that Doug would just leave him out to dry like this. After all, he knew LiMu couldn't speak! Or could he.......?

LiMu left work early to check on Doug. He kicked in the door to find Doug sobbing inconsolably on the couch, now watching Forrest Gump.

"Life really is like a box of chocolates!!" Doug wailed.

Oh no, he's an ugly crier....

LiMu patted Doug's shoulder with one of his wings. There, there.

Doug looked up at LiMu, his face covered in tears and snot from the hours he'd spent crying. Doug was the only person who'd ever been able to hear LiMu speak, for some reason. Neither of them quite knew why, but Doug was able to hear LiMu's sexy baritone. Doug didn't watch anime, but he'd seen an episode of My Hero Academia with his niece and thought LiMu sounded just like All Might. Perhaps LiMu had a secret career as an anime voice actor, who knows?

Regardless of LiMu's clandestine voice acting career, he was here now, his deep voice reassuring Doug the way nothing else could. "Th-thanks, LiMu. You always know just how to help."

"No shit," said the sassy emu, "that's why we're partners."

"Partners..." Doug repeated. It felt like such a big thing to be, partners.

It felt like so much more than just customizing insurance together...it felt like...like they'd always have each other...at least, that's what Doug wanted.

"LiMu? You..you won't ever leave me, right?"

"Of course not, Doug," LiMu assured him, taking a seat on the couch next to Doug. LiMu's feathers pleasantly brushed against Doug's side, making the human blush. Why does my face feel so hot? Am I....am I attracted to LiMu?!? But he's a guy!!! And an emu!!! He's not even human, this would never work.....why do I want it to work??

And that's when Doug realized the source of the distress he'd felt these past couple days..

Doug was in love with his best friend.
