"What would I even imagine by ant-men?" I let out some of the frustration I had after learning about monsters at the guild's... class about monsters.
I didn't know a better word to describe it, but I felt like that there had to be.
"Well, men like ants? Or ants that are men-like?" Nidle guessed as he held a book that contained a list of monsters, "Ant-like men seem more... right?"
"Are there no drawings in this book?" I snatched it out of his hands, "At least both names would look like the thing that they are describing. Another trainee once told me about metal men called taloi, the word doesn't mean anything as far as I know," I turned the book and my head upside, looking at the written words I couldn't read.
"Some words come from other languages, maybe it's from orilidian or ossidian, who knows. Maybe translated it literary means 'metal men'?" He took the book gently out of my hands now. He flipped to another page with no drawings on it and handed the book to me again, "have you studied your reading?"
I pushed the book back to him and didn't let him change the subject, "someone should have translated it then, don't just let it be. If I found a flying snake and called it 'Flysnake' it should be something similar in meaning in other languages, don't you think?"
"I really don't have a strong opinion about that."
"Maybe you should. If it would be something that's closer to you, would you not be upset? If they called Yule something other than his rightful name?"
"'They', as you call them, already do. I may not know what happens to the name of monsters in other languages, but I do know that Orilid and Phison don't call Yule, you know, Yule."
"What do they call him then?" I asked.
"In Orilid he's called Mylalas and in Phison Ratii."
"What, why?"
"Do you really want to hear why?"
"Course I do, I am absolutely captivated and entranced by the answer to this mystery."
"Eizon was the first country which believed in Yule and when his religion spread from us to others they thought that our word for god was Yule so they just used their word for 'God' instead of the name."
"Is that the only difference?"
"One of the small ones. A big one is that Phisonians think that Yule is a woman, a woman. Can you believe THAT?" He laughed at the idea.
"I don't think it's that absurd," I shrugged.
"In the book of Jushor, Yule is referred to as a 'he' multiple times by Raptan after he had his vision. But the Phision's language doesn't gender their pronouns, a silly translation error and a whole new branch of faith was founded but I do not scorn them, it's just a small difference that, hopefully, can be fixed in time," he exhaled, tired, "at least they share our faith."
