We arrived back at campus around nightfall with some takeout since the dining hall was no doubt closed at this time of day. The guys had argued over the takeout menus, deciding where to go as I stared out the window.

There was too much on my mind. Although I'm glad we went and had a talk with my parents, I was left feeling overwhelmed. Not to mention my body was still sore from our nice little fivesome.

"You okay, shortcake?" Caspian asked as he took a bite from his slice of pizza.

I looked down at my barely touched plate before sighing. "This is all so fucked up."

"Woman up, Maeve!" Daxon said while smacking my back like I was one of his 'bros'.

I stared at him with an exasperated look. "Are you seriously telling me you're not freaking out right now?"

Daxon stole my half-eaten pizza before responding. "Of course I am. There are gods knows what walking around in meat suits. I mean, these things are around our food!"

Leave it to Daxon to be worried about the health concerns of his food.

I groan before slumping further into Caspian's couch. "How are we going to fix this?"

"We're not," Colt responds blankly.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask, throwing my hands up.

He looks at me as if I were dense. "It means we're not going to be doing a damn thing about it. We sit and observe."

I look around at the others. "So we're just going to wait around?"

Harley looks at me as his wing touches my upper arm almost as if in silent support. "Your parents said they were looking into it. If we involve ourselves first then we're just putting a bigger target on our back."

I couldn't help but agree with what they were saying, but it still felt wrong. How many other students were going to die by then?

"Is this really about taking down the cult, or are you more worried about Olivia?" Caspian asks gently.

I stilled at his words. Of course, I wanted to take down the cult, but if I was being honest, the thought of Olivia being a part of this sickened me. I answered his question carefully. "I'm worried about both. Olivia wouldn't do this, she's not like that."

Daxon chews on his lip before nodding. "I have to agree with Maeve. Olivia has been dorming with us for a year now. She's quiet and doesn't exactly strike me as an evil genius."

Harley looks at me with something that looks akin to pity. "Evil usually lurks within the quiet ones."

I swallow at his statement. "Okay, so we observe but keep our distance then?"

Caspian nods before looking curiously at his plate. "What I don't get is Willow..."

I furrow my brows. "What do you mean?"

Caspian continues as he nods his head. "She wasn't one of the bodies you found in the tunnels, so what is her purpose in all of this?"

I couldn't help but think back to the day in gym class where she displayed some over-the-top power. "She may not be dead, but she has definitely had some sort of power boost."

Colt seems to be thinking of the same instance as me as his eyes turn calculating. "I've been thinking that she might be closer than we think to all of this. It's obvious she turned Josephine over to them. I mean, they were friends."

The thought makes me sick but I nod all the same. "And Donovan..."

Colt's face scrunches in anger. "He is definitely not one of the main members. The dude is mediocre at magic."
