I dragged myself across campus, towards my awaiting doom...detention. I mean, I'm no stranger to it, but I normally got it easy back home. I will never forget the day that my dad, Everett, wolfed out at the teacher for making me scrape gum off the bottom of the desks.
I smiled at the thought of my parents. I missed them. Did they miss me? I know I can be a lot to handle sometimes, but I don't mean to be. I just am.
I also thought of Kellan, my brother. He just turned 18 and was already the alpha of the Rivergreen pack down south. Did he even know where I was? Who am I kidding, he wouldn't care. He's always despised me and as much as I tried to deny it...it fucking hurt.
I opened the door of the auditorium where a few students were scattered around. "Ah, take a seat, Ms. Maxwell. Restrain yourself from using magic or you'll be collared," Professor Matthews said, tapping away on his tablet in the front.
"Collared?" I said aloud as a chill crept down my spine.
"You don't want to know, angel," Colt's rough voice said from a row over.
I was about to open my mouth before Mr. Matthews stood up and spoke. "Supplies are at the door, partner up, and clean up around campus. You're dismissed at six."
I huffed, making my way to the supply station and picking up a trash bag and a device to pick up trash with. I glanced at Colt, noticing he was following close behind me. Guess we're trash picking buddies now.
"You sure do love attention," Colt said casually as he picked up a can with the grips of the device.
I turned around, staring at him. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
He shrugged dismissively. "The way you acted today in class. It was dramatic."
I gaped at him. "I was telling the truth. Something is going on in those woods. Harley saw it too, but no, he had to go around lying to make me look like I'm a psychopath!" I growled in frustration at repeating those moments again. I'm going to fucking kill him.
Colt actually grinned, and holy hell, I'm a goner. His smile beats anything I've ever seen before. Two dimples decided to grace me with their presence as he chuckled slightly. "You are a little crazy, angel. But I find it refreshing in this place of stuck up supes." His smile vanished, and so did my sexual thoughts of him...briefly. "What did you see in the woods?" He asked seriously.
My mouth parted in shock that he was actually considering what I said to be true. No one else even mentioned that they thought I might be telling the truth. But then again, I have been avoiding Caspian and Daxon all day.
I bit my lip, his eyes zoning in on the action. "I saw some sort of...ritual? There were people in robes and they-" I cut myself off realizing how crazy I sounded.
"They what?"
The look in his eyes made me continue. "They slit William's throat. I saw him die."
"Well, he's obviously not dead considering I just saw him last period. So either you actually are fucking insane or that ritual wasn't meant to kill him."
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "What do you mean."
He looked around, although we were the only people on this part of the school grounds. His gaze caught mine, pulling me in, which I let him.
We were suddenly standing by a stream where trees grew high above our heads. It was beautiful, even if we weren't really there.
"Was William there willingly?" Colt asked me, his voice sounding far too dark for this beautiful backdrop.
