Vera
I run out of the cafeteria and into the girls' bathroom sobbing. I look into the mirror and hate what I see. Mascara runs down my face as more tears come out. I see someone come in. It was a boy.
He had black fluffy hair, it was wavy like mine. He has a skateboard in his hand. His hands are full of rings. He's wearing a baggy shirt with some baggy pants, and old-school vans, low tops. He had a chain dangling around his neck and cute pearl earrings.
He notices me out of breath and shaking. He places his skateboard down against the wall, coming towards me. He hugs me as if he means it. One of his hands was on my head, the other on my back. I didn't know him. I hug him back and start to cry even more in his arms.
"You wanna talk about what happened in the cafeteria?" He said letting go of me,
I look up at him confused, "Why are you being so nice to me?"
"Because I don't like to see you in pain." He pushes the hair out of my face and lays his hand on my cheek.
"But you don't even know me."
"Vera I know you, you just don't know me." He said with a little smile, trying to make me feel better.
"What's your name?" I look into his eyes to try and see if I know him, but I swear I've never seen him before.
"Alex." He shrugs and looks back down at me.
"Hi, Alex." I smile weakly.
"Hi, darling." He says tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.
There was something about him I liked, liked a lot.
"So, you want to talk about it?" He lets go of me and gives me some space.
"Oh, no, I just want to forget about it." I sniffle and look down.
He stands there thinking about something.
"I have an idea, only if you want to." He said shrugging his shoulders with his hands up.
"What's your idea?" I couldn't help but smile a little bit.
"We can skip last period and go to the carnival unless you wanna go like right now?"
"Really?" That would put this horrible day behind me for sure.
"Yes, of course. C'mon Vera, it'll be fun."
"Okay, fine."
"Fine as in go right now, or?" He said sarcastically,
"Yes right now, you idiot." I giggled and shook my head.
He rolled his eyes, "Well, let's go then."
"Alright, alright. Let me get this stupid mascara off my face," I say looking back in the mirror.
"Okay, I'll be out here, waiting." He grabs his skateboard and leaves.
As I'm taking off the makeup I wonder, how does he know me? I don't know him so he shouldn't know me. Right?
When I'm finally done, I throw all the makeup wipes in the trash and put the rest of them back in my school bag. I walk out of the restroom, seeing him waiting across the hall for me. How nice of him. I smile and we walk through the cafeteria to get to my locker.
Lunch hasn't ended yet so everyone is still there. Including Hunter. He looks in my direction, looking confused. I see his eyes look at me but then they flicker to Alex. Oh god.
I roll my eyes and keep walking.
"Vera, where are you going?" Hunter said yelling across the lunchroom.
