Picture this: It's 36BBY

Ahsoka Tano is born. Not on Shili, no, but on Zygerria, to unnamed man and woman. She is taken from the calloused and loving hands before she even opens her eyes, and from there in is raised by Zygerrian Slavers and an old Zeltron man who was born and eventually dies in captivity. She was trained as an entertainment slave, to dance and use her powers for show.

She's five when a Kel Dor spots them in the crowd and approaches her master, attempting to strike a deal to buy her. He refuses like he does every time, and it ends with a hole in his chest and a soft grip on her arm. He carries her to his ship and introduces himself as Master Plo Koon of the Jedi Order, and Ahsoka merely tilts her head at their in confusion. He brings his hand to the back of her neck and feels around with something tingly before a faint clicking sound is heard and the heat that was growing disappears in an instant. He brings her onto his lap and gently strokes her montrals, saying that nobody would ever touch her in a bad way again.

Master Plo is a liar.

Picture this: Coruscant, 31BBY

A five-year-old child stands in front of people calling her dangerous because she feels emotions. The little girl is scared because she doesn't understand what is wrong with having feelings, but the people in front of her are calling her evil for it. She is a child in need of comfort and warmth, and these privileged people refuse to give her that because they don't want to become attached.

The little girl sees no difference between these masters and her old ones.

They reluctantly let her into the Jedi Order, and she is labelled as a risk youngling and sent off the creche. She is raised by the Masters, and when the clone wars break out in 24BBY, 12-year-old Ahsoka Tano is apprenticed to Anakin Skywalker.

Anakin Skywalker is 17 when a togruta youngling who barely reaches his waist is sent to him. She wears beige Jedi robes and is bash and shy. The Clones are elastic for a kid to join them but they are less than amused to learn that she will carry the rank of commander. He and Rex sketch up rules for them and after some guidance, the girl no longer cowers in the face of the battlefield. As much as they loathe to admit it, they hate it. After a few months, Ahsoka gives herself vambraces and shoulder pads, dripped in 501st blue. The men are so proud of her - and so drunk - they take her to the planetary barracks and show her off to the other troopers. She's the closest to Cutup and Rex, with Rex, Cody, Wolffe and the rest of Domino Squad following closely behind.

On her 13th Life Day, before their main party with the clones, Anakin introduces her to his girlfriend, Padmé Amidala. The two connect in an instant, Padmé immediately taking the girl under her wing and treating them like her own child. And when Ahsoka was 14 and the two had eventually stopped dancing around each other and tied the knot, that it became a reality. A neatly signed form made Ahsoka Tano into Ahsoka Tano-Nabberie, the adopted daughter of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker-Amidala.
