Chapter Four - Give him back

"Crowley?"

"Hello Squirrel," the former king of Hell smiled. He helped Dean sit up and Dean noticed that they were both in the hall. He thought that any non-human soul would be stuck in a cell, forced into unconsciousness. "You see this place differently, don't you?" he asked, noticing the confused glances.

"I- It looks like hell to me, like the way demons see it. Hallways lined with cells. The only difference is that everyone here is unconscious. How did you get out?"

"Interesting," Crowley looked around again. "I only see, well, Empty." He raised an eyebrow at the joke. Dean rolled his eyes.

"Glad you're still the same, Crowley." Dean got up off the floor, and his nightmare came back in fragments. He needed to get Cas, he couldn't have a future like his nightmare.

"What are you doing here? Humans don't get in," Crowley asked but the thought hit him a moment later. "Castiel. He's here isn't he?" Dean nodded. "What happened?"

"He- he made a deal with the Empty when Jack died. I guess it wanted Jack and Cas traded away himself. But the deal was that he would get taken when he... 'experienced a moment of true happiness'," Crowley perked up, looking at Dean expectantly. "He saved me from Billie by summoning the Empty. He told me he loved me, and the Empty took him. I jumped in after them."

"He said he loved you? That's it? No kiss?" Crowley looked at him with a deadpan expression. "At least one of you finally admitted it," he muttered under his breath. "Did you figure out your feelings?" Dean nodded. "Finally! You two had way too much tension."

"What?" Dean asked, confused at Crowley's excitement.

"Come on, Dean, everyone could see that you two were in love for the last decade. Everyone except the two of you."

"I-" Dean stopped. He thought back to Cas, and how he acted around him. "Oh."

"Oh," Crowley mocked softly. "Come on, I'll help you find the angel."

"Thanks," Dean said. They walked around in silence for a little bit, and Dean noticed that Crowley changed into a couple unfamiliar forms. "Are those other vessels you've had?"

"Yeah, they are. You're probably seeing my favorite vessel the most often since it's the one you're most familiar with."

"So any face I see has to have been a vessel at some point?"

"Yes, in fact Castiel has probably had a couple vessels so keep that in mind."

"So Jess was Ruby?" he said mostly to himself.

"Jess? Jessica Moore? I think Ruby did use her as a vessel at some point," Crowley cut in. Dean thought about Sam, and then shifted to him and Jack, they must be worried. He had no idea how long he'd been gone. But he couldn't leave without Cas.

"Your mother is sorry," he said to Crowley.

"My mother?" Crowely looked over at the hunter.

"Rowena, she's actually the new queen of Hell, but she told me that one of her biggest regrets was everything that happened with you," Dean recounted.

"She's dead?"

"She sacrificed herself to send all the monsters that got out back to Hell."

"How did they get out?"

"Chuck went dark side," Dean said. Crowley did a double take.

"God? God went 'dark side'?"

"Chuck wanted us to kill Jack, with something called the equalizer, he came up with the name by the way, so that when I shot Jack, it would kill me too. I almost did," Dean hung his head in shame. "I was mad he killed my mom, but I couldn't. Chuck got mad we didn't listen to him and then he killed Jack, so Sam shot him with the equalizer, so Chuck got pissed and started killing everyone."
