High hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living,
Shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing,
Didn't have a dime but I always had a vision,
Always had high, high hopes

(Samuel is around 11 in normal years)

"Mother, this does not seem so necessary" I whined. Mother making me read all these books, all day long sitting in the library.

"My dear boy, it very much is" she put more books in front of me. "And you have plenty of time to read them, do not feel the need to rush, take your time, understand it."

"Why can't I just learn magic!" I complained.

"If you just tried to learn magic without knowing anything, I wouldn't expect you to get very far. Patience darling. I will see you soon" mother said as she left the room. "Yep"

This place, this world that I live in, is so different to what others live in. I don't have a house, I don't have a usual family, I don't go out and see my friends whenever I want too. No. Not at all. I live in the sanctum, it's beautiful really. Such a big place, can take you anywhere, halls and halls, as well as magical artefacts, it's amazing. I don't really have many friends, but I do get alone with a lot of sorcerers here. Even being the ancient one's child, I still go through the same training as everyone else. But I have to read a lot more. Which isn't the most fun.

I read a little more but then I went outside to the courtyard, watching them train, the golden rings forming, and the way they can fight with the Staff of the living tribunal, that's the full name as I've read in the books. It's all amazing, but what I love the most is the way they can make portals, go anywhere you want. Not that I want to escape or anything, it's just I like the idea of going everywhere.

I stood up and tried doing the same moves as the students.

"Samuel" one of the masters said. "You know you aren't allowed to practice"

"Sorry, I was just curious" I apologised.

"Do not worry, we can keep this to us" he smiled. "You are excited to learn, aren't you?" The man laughed.

"It's all I've ever known, waiting is truly torture" I chuckled. "I cannot wait"

"Yes, I know." He laughed. "And I am sure when the time comes, you will do extraordinary."

"Thank you"

"Though in the mean time, I am aware you haven't finished your book"

"How did you know-"

"Samuel, everyday you come out here and watch the apprentices, then you go and finish your book. I cannot see why today is any different"

"Well, you are right. I shall see you soon." I nodded. "Have a nice day"

"You too"

The sad thing is they do not have the same life time as me. I meet people and become friends with them. And then they go. And the time when they are here, it's fun, but when they're not, not so much. But I'm okay.
