We drove in silence, until I spoke up and asked the question I've been thinking the whole ride.
"Why are you doing this?"
"Doing what?" He asked, turning down the radio.
"Being so nice to me."
"Because we're aquantinces."
I smiled and rolled my eyes. "Aquantinces? Really?"
He shrugged, keeping his eyes on the road. "You seem like you hate me, so I figured the word "friend" was out of the question." He said.
I rolled my eyes. "I don't 'hate' you..."
I trailed off."Then explain the looks in school."
I could easily explain that. "You're the school player. You make girls think that you love them, then desert them."
He sighed. "I can't really disagree I do that. At least I make sure their willing to lose it to me first." He reasoned.
"True. But still."
I took out my IPod. I plugged it into the cord connecting to the car, went to pandora, and blasted fall out boys "thumbs up!" Station.
Cole looked at me in surprise. "You like this music?"
"Well... I've never really heard this song. But I listen to this station, because it gives me a change to MEET fall out boy!!" I squealed.
He laughed. "Did you just squeal?"
"Maybe..." I said, sinking down in my seat.
"Wait, you like fall out boy?!"
"Yeah..."
"I love fall out boy!" This time, he squealed like a little girl.
I laughed. "Hypocrite." I mumbled, just loud enough for him to hear.
He shook his head and grinned.
I opened my window, letting the wind run through my hair. I loved the fall weather.
"Where are we going?" I said as we passed out street.
"Errands."
I groaned and hit my head against the back of the seat. "Can you drop me off first?"
"Too late now."
I didn't even have to look at him to tell he was smirking.
••
"Can we gooooo nowwww?" I whined to him, spinning around Walmart.
"Five. More. Minutes." He gritted his teeth.
"I'm gonna go look around. Call if you need me."
He waved me off. I went straight to cards. My little brothers birthday was coming up.
"And we meet again."
"Fuck." I said a little too loudly.
He ran towards me and grabbed my hair. I whimpered in pain, clumps of my hair came off into his hand. I knocked him on the ground and ran out of the store.
Then I ran home.
••
I kept running down the sound walk, my feet pounding against the pavement. I heard a horn honk behind me. I didn't turn around, for all I knew it could be the guy that assaulted me again.
I could feel tears welling up in my eyes, one because of the cold wind whipping into my eyes, two because of my situation, and three because my head hurt from the clumps of my hair that fell out just a couple of minutes ago.
The car horn honked again, I could hear the car getting closer to me. "Luna!" I heard him call my name. "please stop, Luna!" I stopped once I realized it was Cole.
"Why are you crying?" Concerned looks flashed across his face. I hadn't even realized the tears coming down my face until he said anything.
"I-it's n-nothing." I said and sniffed.
He crossed his arms. "I'm not leaving this spot until you tell me what happened." He pouted out his bottom lip, and frowned so that his eyebrows came together.
His face made me smile- just a little bit though. Then I rolled my eyes.
"He went a-after me in the s-store. H-he grabbed me a-nd tried to g-et me again. He pulled out c-c-clumps of my hair." Tears started flowing my face as I spoke.
"Hey, hey hey, oh shit, don't cry Luna. Please?" He was begging me to stop crying. I could see the sincere look in his eyes.
I burst out laughing and wiped away my tears. "Yo-you're not good with crying people, are you?"
He grinned. "Not a bit."
••
