Richie and his mother hugged each other. Richie had stopped crying and wiped his red eyes. Eddie stood there awkwardly wanting to comfort Richie but also wanting to give him space.
"Richie, I love you, you know that right?" Maggie said pulling away from her son and looking at him.
Richie didn't reply, he just adjusted his glasses and glanced over at Eddie.
"Richie, I know I've not been the best mom but I try and I-" Maggie said but Richie pulled away from her.
"Mom please just let me talk to Eddie." Richie said, his words coming out in a choke.
"Richie-"
"Mom! Let me talk to Eddie and then- then we can talk." Richie hugged his mom and let go.
She nodded walking out of Richies room.
Eddie ran over to Richie and hugged him. He hugged him so tight that Richie had to tell him to let go.
"I can't breath Eds." Richie laughed.
"Sorry." Eddie smiled letting go.
"Okay so what was written on the letter?" Eddie asked.
Richie pulled the paper out of his short pockets with slightly shaky hands. He unfolded it and stared at the paper. Eddie slowly lifted his hands up and placed one on Richies hand and the other on the paper. He slowly slipped the paper out of Richies hands giving Richie the chance to stop him if he wanted to.
Richie let Eddie take the paper. He sighed and jumped onto his bed laying down and looking at the ceiling again.
Eddie opened out the note fully and read what it said:
I don't even know why I'm writing this down. It's not like I'll ever give it to you. But I'm doing it anyway being the idiot I am. I just needed to write this down, to get it off my chest. Eds I don't even know how to explain how I feel about you. Ever since we were little I've cared about you so much. And I think I've known that I've liked you for a while. Not in the way I like Stan or Bill but in the way you like a girl. But your not a girl so I shouldn't be having feelings for you that way. Okay fuck I'm just gonna say it. Eddie I have a crush on you, it's obvious but you never seem to pick up on it. I love you so much, I can't even begin to explain how much I love you. But I know you don't feel the same way. So I guess I'll just go and fold this up never to be seen by anyone.
Eddie finished reading the note and looked at Richie. Richie hid his face in his hands, wincing at Eddie looking at him.
"Richie, stop that." Eddie said dropping the note and sitting on the bed next to him.
"Sooo?" Richie asked, sitting up.
"Sooo?" Eddie mocked. "Do you really love me?"
Richie laughed, "What kind of question is that?"
"A question dumbass."
"Of course I love you Eddie, I love you so much it hurts." Richie sighs.
"I love you too." Eddie whispers grabbing Richies chin and pressing their lips together.
"Stop, your so cute." Richie smiled placing his hand on Eddies chin.
"I know." Eddie smiled, giving Richie a kiss on the cheek.
"Don't tease me Eds." He said.
"Don't call me Eds." Eddie smirked.
Eddie and Richie talked for hours. Their seating placements changing every fifteen minutes or so. Eddie was sitting crossed legged on Richies desk and Richie was laying on the floor with his feet on the wall. Then half an hour later Eddie lay across Richies stomach, both of them on the floor.
"Ugh your like a needy toddler!" Richie said glancing down at the small boy laying on his stomach.
"Your just a complaining boy madly in love with the needy toddler." Eddie said rolling off Richie and laying next to him.
Eddie didn't know where his words were coming from. He'd never been confident enough to speak the way Richie did. But Richie had that effect on him, he made Eddie say and do things that he would never usually say or do.
"Yeah I suppose I am." Richie said smiling at Eddie.
They smirked at each other. The two boys were silent for a while. Eddie knew he needed to face the serious facts but he didn't want to. He just wanted to, if only for a while, forget about his problems and be in the company of Richie.
"Richie." "Eddie."
They both said each other's names at the same time and burst into laughter.
"You go first." Eddie said.
"I would say, no you go first, but you know how much I love to speak." Richie said.
Eddie rolled his eyes. Even when trying to be serious that boy couldn't stop himself from being stupid. And Eddie loved that about him.
"Actually you know what, you go first." Richie said suddenly.
Eddie knew Richie didn't want to address the problem, but it needed to be addressed.
"Okay, I'll start." Eddie said with a half smile.
"Stop why does this feel like some sort of therapy session." Richie groaned.
Eddie laughed, "Well it's not, but I do think you need one of those and you need to stop trying to procrastinate."
"Hey!" Richie said ruffling Eddies hair.
"Richie, you should probably talk to your mom." Eddie said seriously.
"How about you go home and talk to your mom?" Richie said with an annoyed glare.
They argued back and forth about this for a while before both deciding that Richie should go talk to his mom and Eddie should go home and try to justify why he was out.
"Okay, off to hell I go, la de da dee da!" Richie sung in a sarcastic voice.
"Please, you don't even know what hell is." Eddie said angrily walking down the hall.
Eddie felt bad for his sudden outburst but if he didn't yell about something he was bound to cry.
"Eddie, I'm sorry I didn't mean-" Richie said running after him.
"Richie I've gotta go." Eddie said slamming the door and hopping on his bike.
As Eddie peddled down to the street, he glanced back at Richies house. The boy stood there with a sad smile on his face.
Eddie waved at him with a smile, even though he had gotten angry at him, he still loved him. Richies face brightened up and he waved back.
That was enough to make Eddie feel even a little happy again.
