The next week went by without much incident. I worked mostly in the garden. Soaking some plants I need in wine. Walking the grounds to find the right earth I need for the earth element. Anna and I spent a lot more time together to. Talking about her and Cole and how she wishes he would just notice her in a different way. A more romantic way.
I also made myself at home in the kitchen and bakes some cookies for Cole and also dinner for everyone one evening. As scary as this place started out it was beginning to feel more comfortable.
As long as I was doing my spell during the day everyone kept on being happy with me. And it was coming along nicely. I had the fire and earth element all done and ready to go and now only a few steps remained.
The water I needed had to be from a virgin spring meaning untouched by human hands. Cole offered to go after I told him where one can be found. Anna begged to go with and so the two of them left yesterday to go get some for me. That left me and Zane alone in the house. Luckily, I only saw him at mealtimes, but he didn't say anything and hardly ever looked at me bar the occasional look in he did at the greenhouse to make sure I was still working.
My free time I spent in their library. It was the most impressive collection I had ever seen, and it was hard not to spend every second I had in here curled up on the sofa with a book.
It was moments like these, a part of me wished I could stay here forever. But the sun was going down and it was almost time for dinner. I put the book down I was reading when I heard a loud bang and then
"Emily! Get down here now!" it was Zane and he sounded furious. Knowing I didn't do anything wrong and that something else must be wrong I ran downstairs as fast I could. They were not in the entrance hall. I checked the dining room but it to was empty. Next, I ran to the drawing room and opened the doors. The sun had mostly set but no lights had been turned on, so it was fairly dark in the room.
Michael and Layla had returned and so had Cole and Anna. They were all standing in the room looking right at me and in the middle was Zane. Fury radiating off him in waves. And before I had a moment to find my bearings, he started to scream at me.
"You lying bitch. That spring had not been untouched in years. I knew you were just making us all chase our tails till you can find a way to escape. All of this is just a big game to you, isn't it?"
I was so confused. I had been doing all I could to get this spell just right and the spring had been untouched when gran told me about it.
"I don't know. I didn't mea....." before I could finish Zane's hand closed around my throat and slammed me hard against the closed door. Hitting my head, I saw starts and realized with a shock that this was it, this is what I had seen. I opened my eyes to see Zane's snake like green glowing orbs staring back into mine, but my vision was starting to blur and the edges blacking away. I was losing consciousness.
"Zane! There are other springs to find. It doesn't help you kill the only lead we have to get her back." Michael spoke hard and fast and Zane's gripped eased and let me go leaving me to fall to the floor and splutter for breath. Anna went to turn on the light as not all of us could see so well in the dark as the Draco. Then she came back to me and tried helping me up.
"Emily, do you know of any other springs?" it was Cole, and I could tell he was trying to help me.
"No not off hand but it is easy enough to find out. I just need to speak to some other witches. They will have a better idea than I do." I said trying to calm the situation.
"She is a lair. She wants to reach out to her little friends to get help." Zane screamed again.
"To what end Zane? It's not like all the magic in the world will be able to get me away from you. So how will that help me without putting more people's lives at risk?" I was sick of his threats and rudeness. Now with the treat of the pending doom was over I felt braver. He didn't kill me and so my fate here was completely mine to decide.
