The next morning I went out to the porch to get the mug I left out there with Reagan, but it wasn't there. My first thought was, 'ok, he stole it', until I found it back in the cabinet - washed. It was such a little thing, yet seemed so important somehow. Reagan actually washed, dried, and placed it in its rightful place. Huh, I didn't peg him as the cleaning type.
I grabbed a bowel and some Lucky Charms cereal, a spoon and milk. Not the most filling breakfast, but satisfying. I sat at the table and dug into my cereal. I froze as I heard the front door open. I drew in a deep breath. Cinnamon and earth - Marcus. He came into the kitchen and stopped. His eyes darted around, searching.
"What?" I asked.
He paused for a moment. "Was Reagan here?" I could tell he was trying to control his anger.
I shrugged and took another bite from my bowel. "Maybe." I stood up. "Want anything to eat? Drink, maybe?"
"Nah, I'm good." He took the seat next to me. "What you got planned for today?"
I hesitated, knowing he wouldn't like my answer. "Shopping with Nikki, her friend, and maybe Tilly."
"After?"
I shrugged. "What did you have in mind?"
A smile broke out across his lips. He stood, bent down to brush a feather-light kiss across my cheek, and replied, "call me when you get back."
"Okay."
I watched him leave. He didn't bring his car so he must be going for a run to let off steam. I washed my dishes and leaned toward the window to look out to the woods. I didn't realize how much I've come to love it. I may still be at war with my wolf, but I loved the woods. Probably just as much as I loved the beach my parents took me to a couple times in North Carolina.
I called up Tilly to see if she wanted to go shopping, which she did - she wasn't too thrilled Nikki would be there, but she wasn't going to let that stop her. I grabbed a distressed pair of jeans and a plain white tank top and got dressed. I slipped on my flip flops, grabbed my keys and headed to the pack house that Reagan and his pack were staying to pick up Nikki and her friend. Tilly decided to drive herself and meet us at the entrance.
Before I could even knock on the door, Reagan opened it,smiling. He blocked my view of the inside as his frame took up the whole door way with his arms crossed. "She's been driving everyone crazy with her excitement," he chuckled. "Even Angelo can't stand to listen to her talk anymore."
I shrugged. "What can I say, I made an impression."
Demarco leaned around Reagan. "Hey, Holly! Where's Tilly?"
"She decided to meet us there." I couldn't help but notice Demarco's face fall slightly in a frown. Dude had it bad. Why didn't they just get together already? They both clearly wanted to. Before I could verbalize my thoughts, Nikki and a girl with sandy blonde hair pushed Demarco and Reagan out of the way.
"Hey, Holly, ready to go?" Nikki asked.
"Yep."
Nikki looked to Reagan. "Don't worry, I won't lose her. Holly's save with us."
"I know she is," he replied. He sounded like he really meant it. There was definitely a story there.
Nikki bumped Demarco with her hip. "I'll play nice with your little out-of-place crush."
Demarco glared at her. "You better." He turned to me, glare melting away. "Make sure she does, Holly."
I saluted him in reply.
