Floating City

The next day, Caleb set off to finish getting everyone else out and leaving the laboratory for last. He was nervous about it but he kept it in the back of his mind. He was also set on finding out who one of the bigger sponsors of the hunt against Supers was so that was his later goal. He freed most of them quickly like the day before but realised that he missed a place entirely. It wasn't a place to catch Supers to his knowledge, but it seemed to have strong people living there. The strange part was that it was floating above the ground with only a floating course to get to it. He wondered how it was possible, then thought that he didn't know most of what was possible in this realm. He shrugged and decided to try and see if he could pass it which he did quite easily. One area almost tripped him up, but he caught himself without the need for powers. He looked around and saw four houses. One made of dirt, 2 made of wood, and one made of metal.

The person who lived inside the dirt house opened their door to greet him immediately, “hey kid! Not much can make it up here, and certainly not many can do it with your type of skill. So what did you want to see us for?”

“No reason really,” Caleb responded honestly. “I just saw a floating city and a way up and got curious. Nothing more than that really.”

The one in front of him seemed deep in thought, “so you didn't come up to meet a hero of yours? I mean we are most kid’s heroes. Well other than the Supers who are actual comic book heroes but not as brave or powerful it seems. So I’ll be your hero kid! Want me to sign something?”

Caleb didn't know what to think of this arrogant person so he just said, “no” and went along his way to explore. Their jaws dropped at the thought that someone wouldn't care about him. Caleb was far too interested in the structural integrity of how it could float without touching the ground.

“Hey hey boy!” The person who was talking earlier seemed to have reattached their jaw to call out to him. “You want to know how this works, eh?” That caught his attention so he turned to face them. “There we go, come inside and I’ll tell you all about it.”

Another opened their door to say, “Don't trust them completely. Stay in my house to talk. I don't mind hanging around when someone like him is here.” The first hung his head and they headed over into the second person's house. They told him all about the science behind how it floated, not expecting him to understand. But with his mastery of air, it was fairly easy to figure out. He started to think of what he could do with this newfound knowledge before seeing how fast time was passing. He still had to check on the estate of one of those who were infamous for tracking and selling Supers, and finish getting the Supers out of the laboratory.

He quickly said his goodbyes before meeting the one in the metal house leaving, “oh er hi!”

“Oh hello there,” They said, walking closer to him. Something was off about them and he felt it like a cloud of thick fog. “Who might you be?”

“Right we never asked your name either,” The ones from earlier added.

“Caleb,” he responded after a pause.

“Oh Caleb, what a great name,” the metal house owner grinned leaning closer to him. “Fairly rare name too. Those who usually have it are different from others around them. I wonder what might be different about you?”

      “Nothing much I don't think?”

“Come on, there has to be something. Maybe a bit of powers to explain how you got up here? Not like I don't believe you could've done it, but I don't believe you could've done it.”

“Leave the kid alone,” one of the others interfered, stepping between them. “Just go on home Caleb, we’ll straighten them out.” Caleb nodded and headed back towards the city centre with his mind set on the laboratory. He waited until no one was watching and turned invisible heading over. He didn't realise just how long the bridge was until he was on it. No wonder why it was hard for people to escape. It wouldn't detour him though since he already knew the feeling of being trapped in one all too well. He hoped the security wasn't as strong as the magic dimensions, but he didn't count on it.

He soon arrived at the lab and used his mind to look inside to see where the Supers were. He found them all corralled in the centre of the room with a lot of people on guard. He quickly decided that he would have to do what he did the first time with the smaller lab. He took a few deep breaths knowing what he was doing was dangerous but had to be done. He then turned invisible and teleporting them as fast as he could out without a single word. When the last one was out he quickly controlled the air bringing them through the air towards the other side of the bridge.

But before he could, he felt himself dwindling and knew he couldn't hold on any longer. He tossed the supers to the end of the bridge, still light enough so that they wouldn't get hurt before he fell onto the bridge. His invisibility wore off and he knew that those in the lab were close behind them. He was just beginning to accept his fate when he heard something running towards him fast. One of the ones he rescued happened to have super speed and grabbed him and ran. It seemed that they couldn't use it for long as they had to stop not long after use. “Stay with me,” they pleaded as they were getting across. Caleb did all he could to stay awake as long as he could.

“The old casino,” Caleb barely got out. “You can find help there.” Caleb then used his mental powers to find that the lab was still after them mounted on horses while they were only on foot. He reached out into his pocket dimension pulling out his crystal and giving himself just enough energy to get them all in front of the casino. While he was losing consciousness he thought, “I forgot to add a medical bay. I really should've done that earlier considering myself.”
