I ran outside of my university, thankful that the day was finally over. It had been long and all I wanted was a long walk through the park. I rushed up to the park gates and groaned in exasperation, the park was closed for the week. Of course, I thought, life had to go even more wrong. With a sigh, I turned away from the gates and instead walked the sidewalk, seeing where it could lead me. I passed small store windows, marveling at the items and knick knacks inside. Some were elegant looking and some looked completely useless. My eyes latched onto one of the objects inside the windows. It was a scalpel and I wondered why anyone would showcase this. Did people actually go looking for things like this? Looking inside the window I saw a man fighting with an older woman at the cash register. She looked completely nervous and helpless, shaking violently where she stood. Without a second thought, I burst in and glared at the man, he wore a black hoodie and was frantically gesturing to the window.

"That's my scalpel!" He yelled at the woman. She didn't notice me, actually neither of them noticed the ringing bell that sounded when I entered.

"If you would like to talk to the owner, I can-" The woman began to stutter out.

"No! I want my scalpel, now!" The man hit the counter separating the two with his fist, drawing a squeak from the woman's lips.

"Hey!" I shouted and the man's shoulders hunched over more. He slowly turned to me and I gasped. He had on a blue mask with black holes where his eyes would be. The holes were dripping some sort of black liquid and his skin, from what I could see of it, was grey.

"What do you want?" He hissed at me, clenching his fists. I took a deep breath and stared into his empty eye sockets.

"Stop bothering this woman." I said, my voice surprisingly not quivering in fear.

"Well, you see that scalpel?" He asked pointing at the one being showcased in the window. "That's mine and they took it. I'm here to retrieve it." He explained and I looked at the scalpel closer. My eyes caught onto a post-it note placed near it. I peeled the sticky paper away and looked to see what it said. Giggling, I grabbed the scalpel and looked back to the eyeless man.

"That's not a showcasing window, it's a lost and found." I told him, handing over the scalpel and the post-it note. He examined the words on the paper, though I had no idea how he could see. Sighing, he crumpled the paper in his fist.

"Thank-you." He sighed and nodded at me.

"No problem." I chuckled and began to walk out the store, ready to leave.

"Hey, wait, do you, um, come here often?" He asked and I rolled my eyes at him. How smooth, I thought.

"No, I was just walking by." I said pushing on the door. The man was suddenly beside me.

"Can I have your number?" He asked and I smiled. Not knowing what I was thinking, I nodded. I took out my phone, handing it to him and he did the same. I typed in my number and handed it back to me.

"My name's Eyeless Jack, by the way." Eyeless Jack said as he gave me back the phone. Smiling some more, I tucked the phone in my pocket.

"Nice to meet you, Jack. I'm (Y/N)."
