I woke up with beeping noises coming from around me. I tried to open my eyes but I couldn't muster the strength. Well if I couldn't open my eyes might as well try and talk.
"Where am i?" I mumbled, and I was pretty sure it sounded more like "Were m ha" But I think they got the jist of it because I heard whispers around me along with the beeping.
"Abbie? Can you hear me now?" Mom sobbed.
"Mom?" I rasped.
"Hey now, don't strain yourself to talk, you'll only get worse and that's the last thing we need right now." Mom lectured.
As I slowly got my eyes open, I noticed how dark it was in the room that I was in. I motioned to a notepad and pencil that was across the room. As I was about to start writing down the questions I had, I noticed someone walking into the room.
"Abbie!" Alex hollered as he set down the coffee he had been carrying in and rushed over to me and wrapped me in a gentle hug."Hi."
I started to sniffle and then tears were falling down my cheeks.
"You're finally awake."Alex sniffled.
He pulled back and I gave him a puzzled look.
"You've been unconscious for almost a week."
"What?!" I croaked.
"Hey what did I say about using your voice young lady!" Mom shouted.
"Give her a break Ellen." The mysterious man from last week was now standing in the doorway. Who the hell did he think he was? Just coming into my hospital room when I had no clue who he was.
I nodded towards him with a head when he and mom were talking and Alex was talking to me about what had happened.
"That's your soon to be step-father." Alex whispered "He's also the father of your very very soon to be sibling, that's all that I've heard, sorry." He kissed my forehead and I patted the bit of the bed that was wide open, he didn't hesitate to sit next to me.
"So about that date we were talking about."
'What about it?' I wrote on my notepad.
"When do you want to go?"
'Hmmm. How bout when I get out of this place? When is that by the way?' I scribbled down.
"You're scheduled to get out in two weeks from now if you get better at the right rate." He mumbled into my hair.
I set the notepad down and wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him into a hug, a hug that meant more to me than he could know.
"I like you, a lot." I whispered.
I could feel him smile into my neck."I like you too Abbie, a lot." He mumbled into my neck.
We sat like that for a couple more minutes then the doctor came in and did lots of tests on me to make sure that I was progressing well, which I was. After the doctors walked out after what felt like hours of testing, mom walked over to me.
"I think it's time that you properly met John." Mom shyly waved her hand towards the mysterious guy who's name is actually John."I am engaged to John and we are expecting a little boy in a couple weeks."
" I'm having another brother?" I choked out."It's like you can't have girls other than me. So John, how long have you and mom been together?" I saw mom's face as I asked the question.
"We've been together since we were 15-16 right Ellen?" John asked innocently.
"You've what?" I shouted.
