Meredith woke up to the smell of gingerbread and the sound of laughter from kids jumping around.
She looked at Derek and they both smiled.
Suddenly, they attacked their kids with tickles and even more laughter burst into their home.
"Go downstairs. Mommy and daddy will be there in a bit." Mer smiled at her three, beautiful kids.
As the little ones filed out, Derek yelled, "No peaking!"
He turned to his wife.
"Good morning." He pecked her lips.
"Merry Christmas." She smiled, returning the gesture.
The got up and Derek put his shirt on, which matched Bailey's shirt, and Meredith was matching Zola and Ellis.
The two walked downstairs and met their bouncing kids.
Ellis had just turned three, while Zola was ten. Bailey was 7.
"Can we open them, please!" Bailey asked, holding a good sized present.
Meredith looked at Derek.
"You can open one. We have guests coming over with more."
The kids scrambled to pick the present they wanted first.
Derek looked at Meredith with a fake pout.
"Do I get to open one?"
"Shut up." She rolled her eyes.
He went off to make Christmas tree shaped pancakes and hot cocoa.
The living room was decorated with Santas and Rudolphs everywhere. Ornaments Hong on trees, filled with photos of loved ones. Candles stayed lit and the fireplace was on. Wreaths were hung, and pictures of lost family hung over the mantle.
Stockings were stuffed full of trinkets and candy. Each one uniquely decorated by each Grey-Shepherd.
Derek came back quickly to see his kids' reactions to their gift.
Zola got an anatomy Jane doll and her smiled reached from Canada to Mexico.
Bailey got a Star Wars Lego set, much to his father's jealousy.
Ellis got a dress up set full of skirts and tops.
Meredith got some pre-made food from the fridge and set it out, Derek stuck to cooking the last minute things.
"Knock knock!" A raven, curly haired person walked in.
"Aunt Cris!" The kids ran to give their aunt a hug before going back to their toys.
"I brought adult drinks." She said as she sat bags on the counter.
"Thank you." Derek and Mer said in unison.
Just then, Owen comes in, carrying gifts and boxes.
"Just set them under the tree." Derek smiled.
Once everyone came, the place was packed.
Carolyn, Derek's sisters, their husbands, kids, lexie, Mark, Cristina, Owen, Jackson, April, Callie, Arizona, Bailey, Ben, Tuck, Sofia, Harriet, Alex, Jo, Luna, Izzie, George, and Adele were all sitting around the tree, talking and laughing.
They played White Elephant and drank. The kids played together and Christmas music played in the background from Alexa
As most guests filed out, only leaving Cristina and Lexie, along with Mark, the five adults sat talking even more.
The kids were playing in Ellis' room.
Owen had to leave with a 911 page, so it was just them. Lexie helped Mer clean up wrapping paper and Cristina had to go.
Eventually, no one else was there besides the Shepherds.
The kids came down, ready for the tradition Derek had brought into the house.
Ellis was snuggled into Mer's chest, Zola laid on the couch, and Bailey sat beside his bed.
Derek read the story of The Grinch, leaving the kids to fall asleep and Meredith carrying them to their rooms.
"I love you, Mer." Derek said as he pulled her closer to him.
"I love you, goodnight."
The end.
I really hope you liked it. Please, please, please leave suggestions! Bye!
