The new house stood tall, it looked dark and gloomy as if nobody had lived in it for eons. The girl went to grab the door handle and saw cobwebs, she flinched and stepped back in disgust. Trying to ignore the webs, she opened the door, she wiped her hand on her jacket and looked around the room in wonder. The walls were pale and the paint was cracking. The floorboards squeaked and were covered in dust. "Well this is just great" said the girl sarcastically, there was an echo around her,she shivered. Just then her mum came stumbling through, "why not go take your stuff to your room?" She asked handing the girl the box. The girl rolled her eyes as her mum turned around and went upstairs. The stairs felt unstable and bent when walked on. She couldn't be bothered to tell her mum yet so she just hurried up them. Walking through the hallway, she opened each door to see the rooms but, they all were pretty much identical except the bathrooms. They all had plain walls and plain flooring. The bathrooms had metal toilets like prison toilets and the shower only sprayed cold water, there was no gas and the tap was leaking. It was the same in the other bathroom but the tap wasn't leaky. If you were quiet enough, you could hear the dripping of it in the hallway. The girl continued, slowly walking along, finally reaching her room. It seemed dustier than the others but the light from the window shone into the room illuminating her, she put the box down and looked out the window, just as she did, the sky started crying
with rain. The girl looked away and started unpacking. Soon enough the day had gone by and it was finally time for them to have their dinner. The girl just sat there playing with her food, waiting for her mum to leave for work as she said she would. An hour had gone by and the mum finally had to leave, the girl eyed her and the mum glanced over, she was telling the girl all the rules and kissed her on the forehead before leaving. The girl didn't think much of that gesture anymore as it didn't mean anything to her mum so why would it for the girl? The mum finally stepped out the door and it slammed on her way out followed by silence.
