-Do you know who I am, Miss Solène?
-No...
-Maybe that's why you steal from me, hand it over.
-Are you aware that your friends here have killed a police officer?
-Like I care! Here is your father, now give me my egg.
- I had eggs for breakfast ...
His hand had landed on her face before she could finish her sentence.
-You do not want to mess with me, young lady.
-Sir...a henchman had emerged with a shy voice.
-What!
- Your mother is demanding after you.
He walks away with the lackey who had come looking for him. Solène collapses on her father's thighs. Her head throbs. Dorsainvil crouches down next to them as Adrien regains consciousness in the back.
- I have been nice but I guess I no longer have to. You see Damien, my boss wants that egg and he no longer has patience.
-But I don't have it!
-Is it possible you really swallowed it? See we track its energy at night. It was with you on the bus and at the store before we went to grab you. That's how we knew you were back in town.
Adrien, tied up stared at the two in conversation.
-Can you at least tell us what it looks like?
-I have been told the egg carries its mother's colors into the sea until it creates colors of its own. There is no way you mistook it for breakfast, Miss Solène. I'm going back to dismantle your father's store, and if I don't find it; I'm going to have to cut you open to search through your stomach contents.
Adrien would not sit still. Dorsainvil and the others left them tied up with one guard as they went looking for their egg. Solène kept thinking.
-What did I bring with me, Adrien?
-You made a to-go bag back in your apartment.
-I just put toiletries, clothes, and my computer in with the usual things.
-Maybe you have it on you?
-My pockets are empty they searched me.
"PssssT"
The muscular man left alone to guard them walked out of sight for a simple second. A man in a lab coat appeared just after with keys to their chains, pulling the guard into the caged area with them.
-Fabien! ... Is he dead?
-Chloroform ... C'mon, let's go.
Together, they sneaked through the fish farms facility. The smell of fresh water was a dead give away. They avoided workers and cameras as much as they could. Fabien sends them out through some shady pathway. He then drives around to find them with his old jeep. Victorious laughter fills the car as they hurried up a beaten road into the green surroundings.
-It's nice to see the three of you together again. Her father can barely talk now.
Solène takes care of her father in the back seat. Fabien drives without lifting his foot off the gas and Adrien keeps an eye on the rearview mirror.
-I think he has some broken ribs. He is not breathing properly.
-I think I just lost my dream job but that's okay. We can take him to safety.
-How did you find us?
-I was bringing your father some fresh fish when they took you this morning. I recognized Dorsainvil and followed him back.
-Do they work here?
-He is the new owner's assistant.
-The Damien dude?
-Yeah, the old man was on the boat that crashed earlier this year. You know the one who sprung the oil spill. I heard some of your conversation coming through the vents into my lab.
-I don't have their egg, I don't know what we are going to do, and they keep finding us.
-I beg to differ. I think you have it and I have an idea.
The Jeep continues for a good thirty minutes on tracks in the forest following the river upstream. It turns into the thickest parts of the woods to a cabin the three of them knew well.
