"Hey so I was thinking," began Tony while holding onto Stephen's arm like he always did, "maybe you'd wanna practice driving? I totally wanna see you do that," he proposed.
"Uh, yeah, sure," Stephen agreed. "When?"
"After school?"
"I can't. I promised I'd help Christine with catching up in advanced calculus."
I HATE it when he has plans. Especially with Christine... not like it's happened before but I still hate it... maybe I'm being selfish but...
Tony shook his selfish thoughts away and instead got on to ask a question that had bothered him a while. Well, ever since that one game a few days ago. Speaking of a football game, Tony could finally join this week's practice!
Anyway. Tony asked, "you like her?" Stephen turned to him with a sucky attempt at surprise and confusion, as if he didn't know who Tony was talking about. Tony huffed. "Christine?"
"Oh!" He blurted out in response. He was going to be honest. At that point in their lives they could very easily tell when the other was lying, and Stephen counted on Tony not to miss a thing. "She's the first girl to ever show interest in me... maybe I'm moving too fast but it's not like I'm used to it."
Tony scoffed. "This is not the first time a girl has shown interest in you," he informed.
"What??"
"This is the first time you've noticed."
"How... come...?"
"All the girls have come to me because they thought you were scary - well, not all of them, I bet."
"And you never told me?"
"Well you never seemed very interested."
Stephen nodded in agreement. "That's not false." He paused for a moment. "Anyway, maybe we could pick that up tomorrow?"
"Sure thing."
Once it was time for the two of them to separate to get to their classes Tony took one last glance at Stephen's beautiful profile and noticed something he hadn't before as he scratched his face. A ring on two of his fingers on his left hand. Tony grabbed his hand and looked at the ring. It looked ancient, like hundred year old brass.
"This is so cool," he complimented. Stephen chuckled and quickly ran a his free hand through his hair. Tony always thought Stephen would look great with rings. Sometimes Tony wore many on each finger and it looked good.
"Thanks. Anne gave it to me."
"Another antique thing. An old two finger ring and a cloak."
"Yeah, there's this antique store on her way home from work... she likes buying me gifts." Lies, Stephen thought, actually frowning once he saw Tony looking away.
How cool would it be if he could tell Tony everything? That he was a sorcerer. And to show him everything, and now take him places instantly with his sling ring.
"Anne certainly knows what you look good in," smirked Tony and Stephen grinned softly. He then playfully shoved Tony before he went to the right and Tony to the left. "I'll see you at lunch, hot stuff."
"You will. Love you."
"And you."

It's gonna be okay, Stephen. You always keep cool, sometimes TOO cool. What's the worst that could happen?
